C diff infection post surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all...I had gastric bypass surgery on 4/22/19. Everything was going great up until this past Wednesday. Since then it's been non stop diarreah and nausea. I haven't really been able to eat or really drink anything but I'm trying to get as much Gatorade into me as I can. I finally got the lab tests back and I'm told I have a c diff infection. They gave me antibiotics which I'm having a very hard time taking them. I've crushed and cut in pieces and everytime I try and take them I end up gagging and bringing them back up. This is totally unbearable, I so want to feel normal again. Looking to see if anyone else has gone thru this and/or any suggestions on how to get these pills down. Thanks in advance.

Goodness you really need to get them down. Is there anything you can keep down that you can put them in? Iced coffe (my nut says iced latte with milk is ok) pudding anything that is really yummy...as long as it doesnt hurt to to eat like dumping or cramps you may want to. You are at a stage you can eat most foods as long as they are chewed well. Keep us updated.

Depends on the antibiotics. I don't think if it's Cipro of Fluorquinalones that you can take them with milk or even with Calcium? :(

Sorry you are going through this! C-diff is the infection from Satan's spawn!

My friend who is a nurse told me to crush pills as fine as possible. Put in a shot glass. Add hot liquid, I use tea, to dissolve. Use as little liquid as possible. Pour orange or pineapple juice in shot glass. Down it like a shot! If there is residue just pour more juice in to get it all. This works for me. Hope it helps!

Sounds like a perfect plan, I like the dissolving in hot Water part, the thing I hated , besides the sheer time-waste grinding and grinding more, was the sheer pettiness of everything, especially my multi-bite. And I had do it twice a day, was SO happy I could back to my once-daily prenatal one. Just 1 and you're done, other people have opted for Patches just to avoid Gritty City meds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
