Sleep study

Recommended Posts

:help:How many of you were required to do a sleep study? The surgeon that I chose gave me a questionare to complete. It had about 10 questions that listed different things on "how likely are you to fall asleep when"....

I answered them honestly but when I was done he said that anything over a 10 suggests sleep apnea. I now have an extra step by having to see a pulmonarologist and be cleared. If anyone else was required to do this, will you share your experience? And how long before the results?

A lot of people have to do the sleep study.....sleep apnea is a pretty common co-morbidity of obesity (altho many thin people have it, too.) I had no idea I had a problem....thought I just didn't sleep well because of stress, pain, etc. After one night with my C-PAP, I slept better and felt better than I had in a long time. I used it for a year or so and loved what it did for me. After losing about 100 lbs, I no longer needed it, but I'm so glad I had it for the time I did....I wish I'd known years ago.

Not all sleep study centers are the same, but here is an overview of one:

I was kindof backward....I actually learned about the band while sitting in the waiting room at the ENT's office (which resulted in a sleep study because I was snoring so much I wanted to find out how I could lessen it). By the time I went for my surgery consult I had already had a sleep test (Kindof interesting really....they hook you up to a zillion electrodes and you sleep overnight at the sleep study place while they monitor your breathing and blood pressure)... Chances are probably good you may need to get one, especially if you are going through insurance.

I had to do a sleep study before surgery. I told the sleep doctor that I was having surgery, and needed to do this as a step towards it. He was great, he got me in as quickly as he could, and ordered a split-night test. Meaning that if I showed clear signs of apena, they could try the Cpap that same night. So I only had to do one study and got my machine quickly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
