Yes, still drinking coffee. My program says 1-2 cups per day is ok. For a couple of weeks post op I didn't want it but after that I drank Decaf for a couple of weeks (only because I bought it thinking I couldn't have caffeine). I usually stick with one cup per day just because that's what I had cut down to long before I started this journey.

In my 3 week post-op material, it says to avoid caffeine, however I have not read any strict requirements following the soft food phase. I have been drinking Decaf and, for me, I don't really notice any difference. I never suffered withdrawals during my pre-op so I am actually fine with sticking to decaf. However, I don't think I will strictly limit caffeine after the soft food phase either.

Yes, I have been back to coffee for several weeks. I'm close to 3 month post-op.

This is from the ASMBS website:

Q: Do I need to avoid caffeine after bariatric surgery? A: Caffeine fluids have been shown to be as good as any others for keeping you hydrated. Still, it is a good idea to avoid caffeine for at least the first thirty days after surgery while your stomach is extra sensitive. After that point, you can ask your surgeon or dietitian about resuming caffeine. Remember that caffeine often comes paired with sugary, high-calorie drinks, so be sure you’re making wise beverage choices.

I waited a month then started drinking it again.

And I have attempted Decaf once or twice, with the strictures and jejunal ulcerations I have, even that sets me off. Although my stoma is getting better there will probably be gastritis lingering, the sorrow and pain, for me, NOT WORTH IT!

I drink coffee daily and have no problems. I did wait until about 3 months post op to drink it. Cold brew coffee is less acidic, so I drink that. Regular coffee tends to give me heartburn.

Yup - still drinking coffee but, only one or two cups a day. I think the docs want you to limit caffeine because it’s a diuretic (it makes you pee) and they don’t want you to get dehydrated.

Yep. It was on my list for week 1, but I drink significantly less because:

1. I dislike artificial sweeteners

2. I have to use non-dairy Creamer for now. I'm a half-n-half girl.

I drink coffee like it's going out of style! Probably more than I should. A LOT MORE. But my blood pressure is 115/60 and heart rate is 45-55... It does effect my sleep sometimes, but I cant find a Decaf that I love.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
