BrighterSide 242 Posted June 15, 2019 I finally got my formal PCOS diagnosis a month ago (4 months post surgery) because I went a little ‘Falling Down’ on my local docs. Had 30 yrs of being told ‘lose weight’ ‘move more’ ‘get less stressed’ then hit early menopause and they did it again. Knew this was my last chance. I was spiralling cos symptoms of both things and resulting mental health probs and weight had turned me into an overeating hermit (oh look, finally proved them right!). Had the exact same fears as you all. Sleeved 21st Jan at 258. Highest weight 263. Down 61 pounds now. Just hit another stall. Average 650 - 800 calories a day and hit Protein and fluid goals most days. Don’t move as much as many due to on-going arthritis, but do far more than before. Hope is a hard thing to embrace, but it’s here and my new gynae I found and forced them to refer me to is a superstar. PCOSSUCKS 96 Posted June 15, 2019 It took me almost 12 years to figure out why I wasn’t able to lose and was only gaining after living my whole life like a twig until I was 29...GIRLS let me tell you the surgery has been a life and sanity saver! I eat right avoid carbs, exercise , rarely go over 1000 cals a day _ pre op_ and I would never lose weight. Maybe the first week on a new diet Id drop 10 lbs and then NADA. At one point I worked out three hours a day and ate 900 cals a day and even after weeks I still would not lose weight and Drs and folks assume Im just pigging out on three pizzas and a gallon a soda a night. All I ever drank was Water or coffee. I even went down to OMAD and I think because it affected my insulin levels it allowed me to lose 18lbs but then again- Stall no matter what I did. I have hypothyroidism, PCOS and endometriosis which means I also have too much estrogen and i always had this sense that that is why I never lost weight when i barely eat. I can relate to this thread so much and it is giving me hope that this surgery is going to work for me because going through all of this for it not to is beyond anything I can bear... I wish Drs would research more how hormones and PCOS and weight gain and inability to lose weight are all interrelated. Thats an encouraging sign... No....I actually lost that during pre op from April to October. The doctor chastised me and said I didn't lose enough I thought it was an accomplishment. On October 1 weighed 284, Today is October 4 and I weigh 291. This is frustrating, I didn't update my stats because everyone says this is temporary because of all those IV liquids in me. @Serengirl I really hope I can lose this weight for real. Today is day 4. This was also me before surgery. I did manage to drop 33 pounds before surgery but it took 6 months and half of it was on the liquid diet. I've lost 53 pounds since surgery for a total of 86. Boldilocks 312 Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) How have your cycles been since the surgery? I jest not - I had my surgery on Feb 5th, and my period started on Feb 6th (not really fun at the time). And ever since I have had perfect 30 day cycles! I can predict exactly when it is going to come now - like a normal person! My periods are also not as heavy or painful. Bleeding lasts 3 days instead of 5+. I so enjoy not having cycles that are anywhere between 15 days and 100 days! PCOS was the reason I had the surgery since the PCOS gave me the metabolic disorder and no matter what I gained weight and couldn't lose no matter how little I ate and how much I worked out. My brother lived with us at the time and said he just thought maybe I wasn't working out hard enough and eating while I was out. Even though he'd ask me if I wanted something from whatever fadt food he was getting and I would always tell him no. When I finally told him why and it's because of PCOS he felt bad lol.I'm 2 1/2months out from surgery and I am down 45lbs. So I've been losing steadily. I am so happy I got the surgery. I do get scared at times its too good to be true and the PCOS is gonna ramp up and stop me from losing anymore weight then I'll start gaining lol. rch1286 23 Posted October 14, 2019 I have PCOS as well and I while I knew the sleeve would be a great tool, I was also conscious that PCOS could still impact the amount of weight I lost. I was sleeved about 11 months ago and I was surprised to be down about a 100 lbs. The weight loss improved my PCOS so much that I'm actually 7 months pregnant even though we had been using precautions. lol... My husband was sleeved 3 weeks after me and has lost more weight. We're both 5'4" and he's about 150. The lowest I got was over the summer to 158 and I've been fluctuating between 163-165, but of course losing is not my focus right now- just proper nutrition.
