First, congratulations! Just had surgery on April 18th.

I was most nervous that something bad would happen during surgery. But as I laid in the hospital bed right before surgery, I realized that the staff was just at work and calm, and this was an every day occurrence for them. I had to trust that they were competent and if they got me through the surgery I could do everything else.

When I woke up from surgery, I barely remember anything until after I was in my room. I was in a lot of pain [all over my abdomen] and very grouchy [light and sound annoyed me], more than I expected. sleep will happen in spurts while you're in the hospital since the staff should be checking in on you every hour or so. Lots of pin pricks [blood sugar checks], blood draws, blood pressure checks, pain checks, medication, etc... Don't be afraid to ask for pain or nausea medicine! My Dr. gave me a pain blocking shot [lasted 3 days] during surgery which helped tremendously, but I still needed oral pain meds. So what hurt most was coughing and sneezing... pain was worst for about 4 days and got a LOT better afterwards. Walking [with a walker, because I was very dizzy] helped believe it or not, and the next day I was ready to go home and sleep in my own bed. There is also a lot of urinating because they're pumping you full of IV fluids [but probably no number 2 for a while, since you're not eating and a lot of the meds cause constipation]! The pain was very tolerable even though I was grouchy. Best of luck! Sounds horrible but it wasn't really.

Hey momof2,
I had sleeve done 2 1/2 years ago I was worried about coming out of recovery in excruciating pain but I wasn't. It was incredibly easy for me and I was walking around the halls within 2 hrs.No major issues at all.
I could of stayed 3 days because I have 2 insurance companies but i went home by 2pm the next day.
No problem getting up and down from my bed.
You'll do fine.
Good luck with your journey and i will look forward to your updates.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
