So, I started having issues with my teeth in the last few months. I had a scaling done, and everything was looking good. Now the dentist says I need a root canal. I had one scheduled, and they pushed it back to a week before my surgery. I've read differing things saying it's fine, and other things said I should not have the root canal so soon. I'm waiting to hear back from the surgeon, but I thought I would ask on here while I twiddle my thumbs waiting.

I'm not a doctor and I don't know, but I would think you'll be on antibiotics following root canal and you'll still be recovering from it. Plus they put those tubes in your mouth for anesthesia for WLS. I would try to space them further apart, but your surgeon is the best person to answer this question.

are you in pain or has the dentist said it’s urgent to have it done now? or could you wait until after surgery

Please go onto surgery as healthy as possible, this is your life you might be risking. Want you to have only the best results, surgeon might withdraw your clearance if you have an Active infection, don't put the Dentist 's. the Surgeon, YOU could be the loser in this equation.

It doesn't hurt. It did before. I had a round of antibiotics and it cleared up. I finally talked to my doctor, he said I could have it that close to surgery...but now my dentist has moved me until after my surgery since they had to give up my appointment.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
