I'm just over 3 months out and had some of my daughter's popcorn while at the cinema watching Avengers: Endgame. It killed me, and I'm posting this from beyond the grave... LOL

I don't know - I just had a little, about a handful. It felt fine, no issues, and I stopped when I did because I knew it would be a slider and I wouldn't get a full signal.

My nutrionist asked me why would I eat popcorn it has no nutritional value for me. It is a food that I should avoid to maintain weight loss success. She suggested that I bring healthier Snacks when I go to the movies. I take nuts, cut up fruit or a costco Protein Bar with my water bottle.

  • I didn't eat it all during the weight loss phase because as someone else said, it doesn't have much nutritional value, and I don't have a lot of real estate in my stomach anymore. I do eat it occasionally now that I'm in maintenance, but it's easy to pack away a TON of it - it shrinks down to pretty much nothing once it's in your stomach.

I've been afraid to try it because I don't know how my stomach would tolerate it. Plus it's just empty calories and I don't need that while I'm trying to lose weight.

I waited until I was 6 months post to eat popcorn to avoid the kernels causing problems. Popcorn is definitely a slider and you have to be careful with it. I personally don't feel its "bad" to have popcorn. If you want to keep it healthy stick to air popped or Skinny Girl brand. I have one of those Pampered Chef microwave popcorn makers - it limits the amount I eat and keeps me from binging. Occasionally we will get popcorn at the movies but certainly not every time.

I tried eating a couple bites of my kid's popcorn at the movies and she doesn't add any extra butter or anything and it just about ended the night for me. I had to leave and go hang out in the restroom for about the next 15-20 minutes of the movie and wasn't right for the rest of the movie! That was a couple of months ago when I was probably about 3 months out from surgery but I haven't tried it again since. I've been fine with most foods (unfortunately probably) but for whatever reason popcorn messes me up!

How much pop corn can I eat at 4 months post op?

Ask your dietician if its on your plan and how much you can eat.

Popcorn is a weakness for me. *laughing* I didn’t try it until a year out and after goal. (slider food for me) It breaks down in your stomach easily and you would think you never had surgery by the amount you can eat.

For me its nutrition bang for your buck. I’m not above bringing my heathy snack in my purse to a movie. (make sure any examples are on your plan and fit your calories/macros for the day)

$6.25 theater small popcorn 6 cups calories 370 fat 20 carbs 40 Protein 0 - No nutritional value to hit your protein goal for the day.

$2.99 Walmart Quest nacho cheese protein chips – 140 calories 18 protein 5 carbs 1 sugar. or $2.99 Walmart. Quest protein ranch tortilla chips 190 calories 9 protein 4 carbs 1 sugar. (at home I have topped the chips with ground turkey with taco seasoning, green and red peppers, onion, salsa and an ounce of cheese. (nachos with a great protein count)

Sweet snack: Walmart quest cholate chip cookie dough protein bar 200 calories 21 carb 21 protein and 1 sugar.

Sliders tend to be things that go down your esophagus easily. One of Orchids and Dragons and mine, was Cheezits, you start with them and you have no brakes, you chomp the whole box. And ice cream was one of mine, I would think it tasted so cool and creamy I would devour an entire 1/2 gallon at one sitting. And often I didn't realize it until I was scraping bottom. popcorn isn't one for me then or now, I have diverticulitis, those hulls do a number on me, PAIN CITY! And those are the ones in my life but others may have something else to contribute.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
