Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 11, 2019 Be very careful but get a clean bill of health. The bad thing is a lot of minor health blips are surfacing for me, Thyroid nodules, renal cysts, an thoracic aorta aneurysm, sleep apnea a rotator cuff in both shoulders, right one repaired, left one probably when 1st one heals, finally got confirmation I am on the high end of the autism spectrum. The good part is: most of these are in early stages so can be controlled. So I am grateful I have seen enough specialists that these things were all found. But I at times feel like the diagram from my cookbook of a beef cow with all the different cuts marked, I begin to feel like they may also be tatooing their favorite parts for future reference. And yes basically my Health is much better!
Zemi 72 Posted May 11, 2019 hi, it can be abnormal for so many reasons so good following this up and finding out why. do you have further tests and an app with a cardiologist sorted to find out what’s going on? hopefully all will be well for your surgery and even more so for your health 💚
Purpledva 175 Posted May 11, 2019 Zemi, I have an appointment this week with the surgeon. After my visit with him, hopefully I can call my cardiologist and get in to have all these things checked out. I will keep everyone posted. I have put this off for almost 8-9 years. And I want to be able to move forward...........Stay tuned.......... 1 Zemi reacted to this

Teri B 42 Posted May 14, 2019 to the OP. The abnormal EKG will likely buy you a visit to a cardiologist whom will probably order an exercise stress test. If the exercise stress test is normal, you will most likely be okay for surgery. If it is abnormal, you would need to get a cardiac catherization to make sure you have no blockages in your cardiac arteries. If you need cardiac stents or surgery, it will delay your WLS. Good luck! PS. It is sometimes normal for larger people to show abnormal on EKG d/t body mass. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Sheribear68 3,201 Posted May 15, 2019 I also had an abnormal ekg and I’ve never had heart issues in the past. Went to a cardiologist and after an echocardiogram, was cleared for surgery I also had odd thyroid numbers and they discovered nodules on my thyroid that had to be first ultrasounded, then biopsied. Turns out I will eventually have hashimoto’s, but at least I didn’t have thyroid cancer. All of these annoying things ended up delaying my surgery by about 4-5 weeks, but I did finally get my surgery 2-6-19. Since then, I’ve dropped close to 50 pounds and am almost halfway to my goal weight. 2 Deenial and Frustr8 reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 15, 2019 Thanks Sheribear68 for your post; you have perfect timing for me. I believe when they get a moment to think about it, I suspect I will have a duplicate diagnosis. Woke up this Tuesday feeling nauseous, thought maybe I was too long since last meal so ate small or at least tried to eat small amount of no sugar added Cereal and skim milk. Of course it didn't have good results, called my Bariatric Clinic at Ohio State, it's on a file-card thingie they gave me way back when , they wanted to know if you were having nausea/emesis all day. So I called, was reminded this in Well-Patient Clinic day but they would have a nurse return my call. When she did, she refused my list of symptoms, and told me I should speak to a console for bariatric social worker, hey if I show any signs similar to depression , it's because I am physicall I'll not maladjusted. I was dry-heaving when she called me, not putting on an act. Well well, I guess in the morning I should call my PCP, ask if I need a referall to see our new gastroenterologist or whether I can direct-call him. Obviously that durn nurse thinks I have gone wacky-woo or something. And I am inching closer and closer to 200, only 14 pounds from there last Friday, she actually told me Pounds don't Matter, Whaaat? Then why did I have surgery but to decrease my excess poundage? My abdominal skin wasn't enough of a wreck that I needed 6 addiitional scars showing?, nobody looks in my navel but I have one there too. Now there, like the tops of my thighs , look like wrinkled silk. That's what fabric they resemble, I rather expected hanging panni, but this wrinkled? Nope that was a surprise. KCgirl061 1,532 Posted May 15, 2019 My EKG was abnormal and I had to get a cardiologist consult. Turns out I have abnormal ventricular relaxation which is a mild congestive heart failure. Short of treating any hypertension and cholesterol levels the only thing that can help that is *ding ding ding* losing weight and exercising! So in my case the abnormal EKG actually helped get me approved for WLS. 1 Purpledva reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 15, 2019 Well I was approved for surgery, went through, did reasonably well especially for my age. Then I found out in February that I have a thoracic aorta aneurysm that my cardiologist Dr Amrita Karve failed to mention. Don't know if weight loss will help that or not, can't help but think if my heart has less body to pump through it would be less likely to pop! Don't probably need to see her until after Christmas but we ARE going to have a little chat why I had to find out after an MRI instead of being told directly. I am more than slightly peeved, think it is understandable. Since childhood I am not enchanted with people who hide things from me!
Purpledva 175 Posted May 16, 2019 Thanks Everyone For your words of support and expertise........... I had my final consultation with the surgeon and he gave the all CLEAR. I sat in the chair as if it were surreal. It turns out that my previous EKG was fine and they even used information from a previous stress test. My surgeon did ask if I were diabetic (because for the longest time I was in denial). I told him yes and he suggested that due to the diabetes, it can sometimes bring in serious complications and speed up heart disease. So when he said that, I was like I AM totally ready. 2 Rozay and gabybab reacted to this
