Restriction Question

Recommended Posts

Please help with some advice.

I have my first fill and NOTHING happened.

I just had my second fill two days ago. I can' really tell yet if much has changed.

Please tell me how you knew you had restriction and how long it took for you to know you had restriction.

THANKS!!!

Sometimes it takes a week or so for a fill to 'kick in'......nobody seems to know why but it is that way for many people.

When you get restriction....you'll know it. You'll get full very soon and you'll be miserable if you overeat....the food begins to back up in the esophagus. It's important to eat slowly because sometimes you are full before you realize it and then you are pretty uncomfortable for a while.

The best part and, for me, the great surprise of all is.......I have very little appetite and almost no interest in food....no cravings, no feeling of deprivation. It's wonderful (and I'm a year and a half out).

Hi, after my second fill, I can even feel Water (if I drink quickly), so I have to drink reasonably paced, or I feel the "pressure" of it building up. When I eat, if I eat, chew until it is gone, I can eat about 300calories of meat/vegies. Then I can feel myself being topped off, if I were to continue eating it would feel kinda like gagging. I didn't feel this after my first fill, now I truly feel the band is working like the tool it is supposed to be. Thats my input. Before, I could eat a lot lot more. It took mistakes to feel the band, like eating raw veggies too fast, or not chewing well. :)

I hear ya, until I had my 2nd fill, I wondered if the band was even in me at all..lol. For me, I start to feel a tightness in my chest. That's when I know it's time to stop. I am really tight in the mornings, I can only drink my Protein shake and even that takes a while. But by evening I can eat just about anything.

It took me 5 fills to reach optimal levels. It took me about 6-8 months to finally hit my sweet spot. I lost 1 lb a week average during that time.

Had my normal meal at Taco Bell and after 3 bites... I KNEW.

Just eat normally and not focus on the band...it will let you know if you have restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
