Mine hasn't kicked in yet at 4.5 months, but I already had fine, thin hair anyway due to thyroid issues and heredity. I take Biotin gummies everyday plus my soft chew Vitamins.

I am also at the 3 month mark. No Hair loss yet, but the texture seems courser and definitely dryer. My nails are really strong and hard, however - the first time I've ever really been able to grow nails. I started taking 10,000 mcg of Biotin at the two week post op mark when I started the other Vitamins. I keep watching for wads of hair in the shower drain, but none so far. Fingers crossed!

I know that surgery causes Hair loss. Just for a short time and it happens no matter the type of surgery.

does it happen 100% of the time?

From what I read, your hair falls out. I went on a strict diet last year. I put myself on again. I ended up losing weight and of course it came back on with a vengious and I had a bald spot in the back of my head. I'm just starting this journey and I pray it doesn't happen again. I take 5000 mg. Of Biotin a day But increased to 10000 starting today.

6 months post-op and my Hair loss started about 6 weeks out and hasn't let up. I am so lucky that I had a very thick, full head of hair because the loss is shocking (especially in the shower). I am down to about 1/4 of my pre-op follicles. I have tried everything from taking Nutrafol/Biotin to Rogain to strengthening conditioners. It is also dry and incredibly brittle and frizzy. I read a blog the other day about DHT blockers from a bypass patient. My hair is thinning like male pattern baldness and I am a female-- still decently thick at the bottom and you can now see through my hair line. I have started with pumpkin-seed oil and rosemary oil. Both these are natural DHT blockers. I do wish my surgeon would have been more forthright on the hair loss as I could have prepared myself better. I have never had a problem with the thickness of my hair in my life even after other surgeries.

I know that surgery causes Hair loss. Just for a short time and it happens no matter the type of surgery. I have not heard of hair loss of this amount. I would go into your doctor before you lose more.

I spoke with both my surgeon and my gyno. Neither gave me any answers. I had blood work done and everything. My TSH was 2.8 which is "normal". My surgeon assured me that it would stop but looking at my drain and hair brush, I would argue differently. I think my next stop is my derm and I have my 6 month checkup soon as well.

With both sleeve and RNY I have lost hair at 3 months - I'm getting tons of shedding right now. It grows back :)

So would it be safe to assume if we hit the 4 month mark then chances are you won’t have Hair loss? Or seems like everyone lost it right at the 3 month mark.

Green Tealael I have an FYI/TMI question. Does T Effluvium have to do with head hair only or all Bodily Hair? The later sounds pretty scary, not sure I am going to feel Gung Ho the whole way.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
