GradyCat 3,695 Posted May 4, 2019 Mine hasn't kicked in yet at 4.5 months, but I already had fine, thin hair anyway due to thyroid issues and heredity. I take Biotin gummies everyday plus my soft chew Vitamins. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
AZhiker 2,253 Posted May 4, 2019 I am also at the 3 month mark. No Hair loss yet, but the texture seems courser and definitely dryer. My nails are really strong and hard, however - the first time I've ever really been able to grow nails. I started taking 10,000 mcg of Biotin at the two week post op mark when I started the other Vitamins. I keep watching for wads of hair in the shower drain, but none so far. Fingers crossed! 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
Sandra Nuelken 419 Posted May 4, 2019 I know that surgery causes Hair loss. Just for a short time and it happens no matter the type of surgery.
AZhiker 2,253 Posted May 4, 2019 does it happen 100% of the time? 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
Jacquie1952 5 Posted May 5, 2019 (edited) From what I read, your hair falls out. I went on a strict diet last year. I put myself on again. I ended up losing weight and of course it came back on with a vengious and I had a bald spot in the back of my head. I'm just starting this journey and I pray it doesn't happen again. I take 5000 mg. Of Biotin a day But increased to 10000 starting today. Edited May 5, 2019 by Jacquie1952
allies journey 144 Posted May 5, 2019 I have no problem with Hair loss but started taking Biotin supplements before my surgery and I take 10,000 2xs a day and my nails are hard as a rock(used to be paper thin)..Definitely great for your nails. KWilk 2 Posted May 21, 2019 6 months post-op and my Hair loss started about 6 weeks out and hasn't let up. I am so lucky that I had a very thick, full head of hair because the loss is shocking (especially in the shower). I am down to about 1/4 of my pre-op follicles. I have tried everything from taking Nutrafol/Biotin to Rogain to strengthening conditioners. It is also dry and incredibly brittle and frizzy. I read a blog the other day about DHT blockers from a bypass patient. My hair is thinning like male pattern baldness and I am a female-- still decently thick at the bottom and you can now see through my hair line. I have started with pumpkin-seed oil and rosemary oil. Both these are natural DHT blockers. I do wish my surgeon would have been more forthright on the hair loss as I could have prepared myself better. I have never had a problem with the thickness of my hair in my life even after other surgeries.
Sandra Nuelken 419 Posted May 21, 2019 I know that surgery causes Hair loss. Just for a short time and it happens no matter the type of surgery. I have not heard of hair loss of this amount. I would go into your doctor before you lose more.
KWilk 2 Posted May 23, 2019 I spoke with both my surgeon and my gyno. Neither gave me any answers. I had blood work done and everything. My TSH was 2.8 which is "normal". My surgeon assured me that it would stop but looking at my drain and hair brush, I would argue differently. I think my next stop is my derm and I have my 6 month checkup soon as well. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
froufrou 678 Posted May 24, 2019 With both sleeve and RNY I have lost hair at 3 months - I'm getting tons of shedding right now. It grows back 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
2Bsmaller18 436 Posted May 24, 2019 So would it be safe to assume if we hit the 4 month mark then chances are you won’t have Hair loss? Or seems like everyone lost it right at the 3 month mark. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 24, 2019 Green Tealael I have an FYI/TMI question. Does T Effluvium have to do with head hair only or all Bodily Hair? The later sounds pretty scary, not sure I am going to feel Gung Ho the whole way. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
