Baby food on pureed stage

Recommended Posts

I’m getting close to my surgery date and I’m starting to prepare for post op and research the pureed stage. My doctor wants me on liquids for 9 days, then pureed for 3 weeks, then soft foods etc.

Did any of you busy people out there have baby food during that time? I’m thinking what’s the point of cooking just to blend it together into mash when there are pre made stuff out there😂 if I like the taste, is it okay to eat?

I imagine it tastes pretty nasty. There are plenty of things for adults you can eat on the puree stage, such as refried Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, cream of rice or wheat, etc. I wouldn't waste my money on baby food, but that's just me!! I love ricotta with marinara sauce.

I put unflavored Protein Powder to the babyfood so I'm not eating empty calories. (even though sometimes you just need something that tastes good.)

I ate green Beans and sweet peas. All other baby foods had too much sugar. You can puree your own food (anything you like) at home. It's more healthier and cheaper.

I wouldn't like the texture or thought of eating baby food. I just went from liquids to soft foods like cottage cheese, Soup, sugar-free pudding and I stayed on Protein Shakes, sugar-free popsicles and scrambled eggs.

I didn't eat any actual pureed food, after pureeing some turkey and attempting to eat it. It was so unpleasant it just turned me completely off of the whole puree thing. So I basically had cottage cheese or scrambled eggs (or nothing) for two weeks until it was time for soft foods.

My surgeon was ok with baby food but just the thought repulsed me. I also didn’t do puréed food I went from full liquids to very soft foods.

I was told no baby food. A simple Greek yogurt with applesauce and a scoop of Isopure unsweetened Protein give me 42 grams of protein. My dietitian wants at least 50 grams. That's what I eat for Breakfast through lunch. Later I would have split peas Soup, 4oz and 3-4 oz of ground chicken pureed in crushed tomatoes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
