Depression and anxiety

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Monday and i have some concerns!

Now i do read all the success stories so you dont have to give me that whole spill about look at the good and not the bad. I dont want to hear it. I've been following a lot of people who has had surgery before or just had surgery within the last 2 months and right after surgery. People start to feel emptiness and sad and it seems like heavy depression. When does that pass and how do you cope?

I really love bariatricpal facebok group .

As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine or through your sweat. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

I had an initial euphoria right away. I already suffer from anxiety and depression and am on medication for it. I did experience some blues, if you will, a few weeks in before I could begin to eat real food. it does pass. Hang in there. I just joined the Facebook group as well!

I've had severe depression, anxiety and ADHD for pretty much my whole life. It's fairly well controlled now, but I did notice a drop in mood after surgery. My therapist and psych had a pretty good idea of why, and I didn't need to up any of my medications because of it.

We qualify for this surgery for a reason. They do not approve people who have healthy, normal relationships with food for this surgery. And even if they did, the severe restriction and recovery that comes with the surgery is enough to make anyone feel self-conscious, upset and other'd. An entire coping mechanism for stress is gone; food.

Take each day at a time. Don't worry that you'll 'be/feel like this forever', don't focus on what you'll feel like tomorrow or the next day. Focus on the here and now. If you're feeling depressed, think. Did you have enough Water? Protein? Have you seen the sun, been outside, talked to a human being? If none of that's helped, take a shower, put on fresh clothes, watch silly animal videos.

You've mentioned your friend passed recently and I'm so sorry to here that. I think these things can help, even if you weren't having surgery. You can do this, and when you come out the other side all the struggling will be worth it. Your friend would be very proud of you. ❤️

The surgery helped me so much. I never felt any depression or anxiety after. I did feel nervous and scared the day leading up to the surgery. I’m 5yrs post going on 6 and started to feel anxiety when I became a mom like pretty bad at times just because I’m a big over thinker and I adore my little girl and worry so much but it has nothing to do with the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
