Surgery went well

Recommended Posts

I am home resting. First day was a lot of pain but it is now manageable. I have 6 incision 4 small ones and 2 large one. Looks like the made the incision where I had my gallbladder removed.

I am onto pureed, but 2 spoonfuls of yogurt fills me up. I am sipping Water, everything else taste like Syrup. No head hunger and I am uninterested in eating. The team at Mt. Sinai hospital NYC was absolutely amazing.

Doesc Water taste funny to you? It tasted sweet to me. It has changed now, but was weird how things tasted so different.

Congrats! Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I started out thinking it tasted sweet like weak Kool-aid, now it tasted bitter. almost like the taste of bile refluxed up. Now what caused that? Wish I knew.

@curlygirlgetsfitCongratultions on your journey, you are in good hands at Mt. Sinai. My surgeon was Dr.Dong and I cant say enough good things about he and his staff. If you are uptown, and you can please come to the class in June lots of information. They also have a FB group.

Wishing you the best.

Congrats Susie! My first 24 hours were rough too. It's been great since then. And Water is great for me as well. I think I've had a total of 1.5 of the Protein Shakes since the surgery. I liked them before - now just the idea of them sounds disgusting. I'm hoping that will pass eventually as they're a great source of Protein.

I couldn't tolerate them after surgery, because they were just to sweet. I now have one a day just to get in the the 30 grams of Protein, because I don't think there is enough hours in the day for me to get in 60-64grams from food plus 64oz Water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
