Hey guys, I’m almost 8 weeks post op and my weightloss has been slower than expected. I’ve lost 9.3kg post op and altogether 15.7kg. I’ve got a lot to lose as started at 132kg and I’m 172cm. I’m able to eat everything, and can eat a bowl of Pasta it just slides down. My surgeon said I’m lucky as so many people can’t eat carbs and are very sick after surgery as their sleeves are too restrictive but my sleeve has some give. He’s just prescribed me Saxenda to help turbo boost the weightloss. Has anyone else done this and has it helped you?

Hi!

You could try the medication but did the doctor suggest also trying to abstain from high carb foods for a bit to see if your losses pick up in their own? (You are very early postop...)

A lot of plans don't include bread, Pasta & rice etc for quite some time just for this reason.

Whenever I think I'm done losing and I randomly clean my diet up again removing little things a pound or two falls off for seemingly no reason. But the reason likely is those foods are keeping excess weight on.

Also just because you can tolerate everything now does not mean you have to go back to it all immediately, there's time later on.

Good luck 💜

I’m on a very low carb diet, this was a meal out and I said I could only have 2 mouthfuls and I’ll be done, but I was able to eat so much more I had to stop myself. I find only Protein fills me and everything else slides through. I’m finding I have to stop myself with most food that’s not just protein so he said it was worth giving a shot.

Your Doctor knows best

Most of us find the same thing as you... Protein keeps us full then vegetables if there is space

Other things (fun foods) slide right through in seemingly endless (not really) amounts ... so we avoid them during the earlier stages to maximize weightloss

I agree with the others who have posted responses. Avoid carbs like Pasta and bread. Use this honeymoon period of not being “hungry” to eat lean Proteins. Did your surgeon or Dietician give you a plan with foods to stick with and foods to avoid after surgery?

I’m defo going yo avoid them now. Yes my dietician gave me some stuff yesterday to reset myself and I’m going to start bulk cooking so I always have something in the freezer. Thanks for the advice!

yeah no bread, rice or Pasta is part of my plan too. my doc says I can try to add them back in but I'm just avoiding them altogether, as pasta is my weakness

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
