My husband still doesn't support my decision, and my surgery is in 8 days! I just keep telling myself I'm not doing this for him, I'm doing this for me. Hopefully at some point he'll be able to stand beside me and be proud of who I've become and how far along I made it. If not, that's his problem - not mine. I agree it would be much easier if he supported me though. Good luck to you!

It's hard to make others understand but if we listen to others will be in the same spot next year. We just need a little help and the surgery is what we have chose to get healthy by. You'll do fine and later he'll be so proud how you took charge of taking care of you. I pray your surgery goes well with not much pain.

I am saddened by your situation with your mother. I am 63 and am scheduled for surgery in Mexico on October 1st. After much serious thought I made my decision. I don't think anyone makes this decision easily. You stay the course. Acceptance is not always obtainable from ones family and friends, so I guess that in itself is a lesson in acceptance.

Let me just say, as a mother I admire you for the kind and loving child you are. I am glad you are learning from this experience with your mother. It will make you a better mother and person. Bless you.

@TheJuice202 That makes me so sad that your family would do/say those things to you. I am so greatful that we all have each other here to lean on. I don't feel so alone, thank you for your support.

My brother and mom have come around a little but not much (they eat tempting stuff around me a bit less (marginally)).
I'm glad to have everyone's support here and eager to give it back in kind.

I can relate, i haven't told my mother either, i just don't need the negativity. I'm already scared, not scared that ive made a wrong decision but worried that I'm all my daughter has.. thankfully my husband and daughter are very supportive and ive chosen to tell a few friends and colleagues who are pleased and excited for me as they see how much i struggle. I'll tell my mother once its over and hope by then she'll be supportive. We'll see.

Good luck, please do alot of research on your Surgeon and i look forward to reading about your progress. I love how supportive this site is!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
