I take solace in telling myself "next month I will have surgery" ... and it really IS next month that everything changes! I've been REALLY practicing eating and drinking at different times, cleaning up my diet, etc. I want to set myself up for success so I am more thankful than anxious for the wait :)

I know what you mean!! Concluded ALL food funerals June 30th! July 1st was my birthday and I started the day making it to a 5am spin class (not been since Feb[emoji57]), are the cleanest way possible (had a slice of birthday cake) and logged in 20K steps. Plan to keep it up till surgery day (🤞🤞).

I suppose the fact that we can say "next month " makes it seem so close yet so far!![emoji28]

Our turn is coming soon [emoji114][emoji114]

lol same, but last night I had a dream that has me a bit on edge and contemplating my decision.

In my dream i just got out of surgery and I was lying on the bed still under anesthesia. The surgery went fine, no complications, and everything looked good, but I began having an out of body experience. I saw the surgeon and nurses prepare a to-go bag full of pills! I remember hearing "one Multivitamin, two Iron, two Vitamin d" and etc. as they added each one to the clear sandwich bag. I don't remember all the ones the listed but it was a lot. They also had a look of horror on their face and said something along the lines of idk how anyone could have this surgery and have to take this many pills a day for the rest of their life.

I cant get the image out of my head of all those pills. it looked like there were about 50 of them in that bag. I barely want to take tylenol when i have a headache so i can see why this may scare me.

Bwahahahahahaha [emoji28][emoji28][emoji28][emoji28][emoji28][emoji28], I'm on the floor!! MarvelGirl, that dream and your description was hilarious!! I guess our subconscious finds a way to let us know what our anxieties are.
We then remind our subconscious mind of ALL the other pills and pain we'll endure for the rest of our lives if we remain obese and our subconscious comes to acceptance and peace. [emoji106]

I HATE pills too!! Hate it which is ironic as I'm in the healthcare field[emoji57]
I've spent inordinate amounts of time researching an all inclusive multivitamin!! Hours and hours of scouring the internet for what the best, least and chewable tabs I can find!!

You guys are doing great though! My food funeral isn't until July 20th. I know I should be starting to change habits sooner but there are a few restaurants i want to go to before my surgery. A few of my family members have also been planning dates with me to go out. Korean BBQ is happening this weekend. I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to eat that again lol

Lol! yea that's pretty strange! That's good you didn't just accept the ones they told you to take. I need to do that too. You don't know whats in the Vitamins or pills they give us. Everything's a business. I'm pretty holistic for a big girl lol which is ironic too.

And Good luck and Smooth surgeries GypsyJenny. I guess I have rather worshipped his surgical skills from afar, someday I hope to meet him and shake his ✋ hand. Alas I live on the " poor side of town" so I scarcely can afford him. But there are lotteries , casinos or maybe someone will run me over and THEIR INSURANCES will pay. Is there any way of falling sideways and they run over and dislodge this Flabby Panni I have post- surgery loss? Yeah I figured that, I might risk pelvic or thigh fractures, and I am not THAT MOBILE anymore! Ah but I did retain my wheeled walker so ALL is not lost yet!

I *hate* pills. I can't even swallow them (psychological issue, I know). I chew everything, even when I am not supposed to. I got used to how bitter certain pills and gel cap fillings taste. Who thought you could do that? I am certainly looking forward to getting away from taking so many. I'd much rather switch a few supplements for the plethora I currently chew and gag down morning and evening :(

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! 🎂 20K steps? That's incredible! 😯 8/16 will be here before you know it... My [revision] surgery date is to be determined August 1st, so I am anxious and excited too. Our stats are very similar, by the way. I was 193 lbs. the day I got sleeved. I wish you all the best! Please continue to keep us posted on your progress.

My situation is a bit unusual/unique. My surgeon in Mexico completely blotched my surgery in 30 minutes. My sleeve looks like an hourglass. I developed GERD, a hiatal hernia, and possible stomach ulcers (currently waiting on endoscopy to confirm).

I have also become severely anemic — ferritin currently at 4.5, developed a thyroid problem, an autoimmunity disorder, and small Fiber neuropathy (the constant feeling of pins and needles in my feet — very painful).

I will say however, that even though my surgery was not done correctly, I still made great contributions to my weight regain. When I became anemic (I found out after passing out at the wheel/got in an accident), (1) I developed a grazing eating style. I also (2) never had the time or the maturity to do the mental work required before surgery (decided and had the operation done in 2 weeks) — I mean we all wake up after surgery still obese. The surgery doesn’t fix anything long term unless we commit to using the honeymoon period it provides (window of opportunity when your tastebuds are in a way reset and food becomes a chore) to adopt healthy lifelong habits. Also psychologically (3) I made the decision that if I can’t eat as much as I want, at least I’ll eat what I want. (4) I’m also very bad when it comes to taking Vitamins and since my bloodwork is all messed up (as my doctor put it, I’m “nutritionally crippled”), (4) I have a biological tendency to go for carbs for immediate energy and (5) I barely exercise (just walk to the bus to go to work — averaging only 4,000 steps 5 days a week).

Whichever surgery you choose, if you commit to change with the great help of your new powerful tool, I’m sure you will succeed. But, do you have any comorbidities? If you have GERD/acid reflux, I would definitely go with the RNY.

What does your surgeon recommend?

Wow!! So impressed by your ability to staying so strong about what others would consider incredible odds!!! More power to you!! I bet you will be so much more successful this time around given your experience and positivity!
I don't have GERD, I get heartburns occasionally depending on the type of food I eat. I'm borderline diabetic and my surgeon recommends the Sleeve so I'm going with it for now but making sure I do all my research for what's best for me. I endured 7 yrs of the lapband until I couldn't anymore. I'm hoping like you to use that experience to propel me to success with this surgery🤞🤞. I'm desperately doing as much head work I can do prior to surgery as this is most likely my worst issue.
I've just seen so many revision stories (Sleeve to RNY) that it makes one pause and have second thoughts. But I've also seen such phenomenal sleeve success stories, I'm hoping to be one.
I'll be watching out and cheering your journey and pray we August Peeps join the successes soon🤲🤲🤲[emoji120]

Cheers[emoji7]

I should be hearing my date any day now, expecting an August one I’ve done everything required and had all the tests done. It’s been a 7 almost 8 month process for me. Trying to stay patient wish insurance didn’t take so long.
I’ve lost 45 lbs on my own so far pre surgery can already feel a difference health wise so I’m excited for the future loss the surgery will give me. I started at 296. We own horses and I want to ride my horses again as my kids have grown up and are working on their careers so the horses aren’t getting road by them anymore. It’s my turn again and I’m so looking forward to it but gotta lose this weight first. Good luck to you and hopefully I’ll be posting my date real soon!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
