KT1981 294 Posted April 26, 2019 I had my 6 month follow up today and everything is great, had a couple questions and got a couple answers, etc. But then... I asked for my goal weight at my next (9 month) appointment. It was only 9 pounds from where I stand today. I was very (unpleasantly) surprised. Now, I acknowledge that I'm a few pounds ahead of the goal curve, but to see that the loss was going to slow SO dramatically that I should only expect to lose 9 pounds in 3 months... that was a punch to the gut. The momentum I've built these last 6 months means everything to me. I'm not mentally ready to let it go. It's been bothering me all day. 1 1 ProudGrammy and Orchids&Dragons reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,446 Posted April 26, 2019 You can try to exceed your goal weight & sail right by it. 3 Losingit2018, FluffyChix and sillykitty reacted to this

Nothing on earth says you need to strive to be average! Rock on! 2 DanaC84 and sillykitty reacted to this

SusieQ2019 567 Posted April 27, 2019 It's quite rewarding when one exceeds their own golds or those set by others. Don't be afraid to set your own goals. 4 FluffyChix, ProudGrammy, sillykitty and 1 other reacted to this
dinosore 12 Posted April 27, 2019 I'm at 170 pounds lost and my surgery was Feb 2018 so no reason to stop the momentum! I certainly haven't 2 2 ProudGrammy, Frustr8, Losingit2018 and 1 other reacted to this
seaforest 562 Posted April 27, 2019 I think they may just be playing it on the safe side so that the goal is attainable. What will actually happen is up to you. If you lose more than they ask for, the more you and they will be able to Celebrate your success. 2 Frustr8 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,418 Posted April 27, 2019 (edited) Yep. Apply yourself. Bust the goal. And the good news is, there's little pressure on you from your doc. Cuz you can lose 9lbs in 3 months easily, right? I'm a slow loser, and lost 15lbs during that 3 month period - just fyi. KT1981 294 Posted April 27, 2019 You guys are the freaking best. You're right! I still have control of my actions and choices and I'm GOING to lose more than 9 pounds over the next three months. Thanks for gently guiding me out of my own pity party! 2 1 FluffyChix, rs and Frustr8 reacted to this

Avery's Mom 315 Posted May 1, 2019 BUST IT! Just like the preop where they 'suggested' I lose 5lbs...I lost 11. if you are close to goal it gets harder. mostly they don't want to stress you out. 2 rs and FluffyChix reacted to this

Treatment teams don't need to put additional pressure on their patients when it comes to post-op goals. Patients put enough pressure on themselves already.
