Thanks!!

Congrats on making this decision...it’s a huge one. I had my sleeve surgery this past Monday 4/22. The worst part so far is the incision pain. Everyone talks about the gas they pump into you hurting, and it does initially. Just walk, walk, walk! I had a great nurse on the night shift that had me up doing laps around the nursing station every 3 hours. Luckily I’ve had no nausea. Everyone is different...just be prepared mentally for any or all of the things you could experience. The incision pain is something I was not prepared for. I’ve been sleeping up in a chair the last 3 nights...with a pregnancy pillow my sister in law gave me. It has been a lifesaver! I don’t have any regrets...just keeping my mind on the end game when I get frustrated with the pain. Oh, I’m not hungry either. My mom is taking care of me and has ate everything from pizza to Chick-fil-a and I haven’t even wanted to eat. Keeping clear Protein Water down, I’ve had a sugar free popsicle and a little chicken broth. Best of luck to you!

I don't regret an of it. The recovery after surgery was easy and I was back on normal food after a month. Because I don't cheat on an everyday basis, I can still occasionally have my favourite food and drink - but hardly any and hardly ever.

I eat a balanced diet in very small portions 6 or 7 times a day and I have alcohol only on special occasions. Best of all, I don't feel hungry.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Read through the many post on this site. WLS is work. This is not easy.

Absolutely no regrets. My taste buds changed after surgery. I enjoy quality food over crappy food. I make healthy versions of my favorites. After goal, I have a drink now and then.

Made me some homemade Tapioca pudding, 1% milk, Stevia sweetened with real vanilla. And I think I'll stir in Protein Powder each serving, left it out of the main bowl, if I know Tomkitten he'll sneak a little out for himself. I now weigh close to 30 pounds than him, he's muttering about talking to Dr Needleman about surgery for himself. And if so, he would probably be a good VSG candidate. But that's between the 2 of them, I wouldn't like pressured, so it's got to be HIS DECISION not mine!

My biggest regret is rather silly. I regret that I didn't have this surgery a few years ago when my wife and I had our last baby. I was obese when I was pregnant and due to the way I carried my weight no one ever knew I was pregnant. I always wanted to be one of those tiny mommies with the huge bellies that they proudly show it off with beautiful maternity clothes. We're doing with babies now so it was never meant to be.

No regrets, Nada, None! I've always wanted to be a runner. I couldn't before due to hip/knee pain. I can now run a slow mile without stopping. It ain't pretty, but I can do it!🤣

And more power to you! I am thrilled for you, I now don't waddle anymore so maybe I can increase my walking speed without getting winded!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
