Protein shakes and bars forever?

Recommended Posts

I would say this differs per person. I still drink two shakes a day. That said, I am a large man and will always be a large man. I'm just not a fat man anymore. I workout and I need 190 grams of Protein a day. There is just no way I can eat that much food to get to 190 without protein supplements.< br />
Obviously, I am an exception and not the rule. If you only need 90-100 grams of protein, you can easily do that via food. That is basically chicken for lunch, steak for dinner, eggs for Breakfast and a cup of cottage cheese somewhere along the way. It becomes a lot harder when you double that.

I only eat shakes if I'm at work - it's a quick and convenient way to ingest Protein and I don't have to rush it. The rest of the time, I eat proper food. I am currently snacking on an apple and a chunk of mature cheddar...mmmm…

I eat the bars fairly often now as a quick go to when I'm out that I know I can eat and feel good about the choice.. I've tried a few different ones recently.. the best was the Quest s'mores bar... that thing was actually pretty tasty.. 21 gm Protein 14 gm Fiber 190 calories. Pretty good numbers for what I'm trying to achieve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
