Pre surgery I took cymbalta daily since 2005 and if I missed a dose the next day I would have uncontrollable crying spells, since the surgery 4/17/19, I haven’t taken it.. no emotional breakdowns I sometimes feel like I want to cry but just a thought of something else and boom it goes away, I happy about that, but are there emotions related to some parts of the stomach that is taken out with the gastric sleeve??? I kinda feel like I have no feelings and I don’t dare be a cold, uncaring emotional person.. any input???

Please consult with your doctor, just to make sure. Glad you made it through surgery and I wish you continued good health. :)

I'm not much help, but I took cymbalta for several years and it's a real pain in the butt to come off.

You have my sympathy.

Hope You figure out your next steps.

Best of luck!

@Vanessa Blair—I’m 8 months post VSG and I was recently discussing this same issue with my therapist. I feel like I have no emotions, very cold. I also happen to be going through a divorce. She thought it might be because I’m in my all business, super confident mode between my weight loss & marriage. Unfortunately, someone close to my son recently committed suicide and I found out I can cry and feel very sad. It was just kind of buried inside me for a while. Long answer, hope it helps...

Ty for all the input... yes everyone’s answers have helped me.. I’m definitely going to do some digging and see what is causing this.. hey! I’m ok with not taking the cymbalta, saves me one more monthly bill , but I’m also scared that I may hit rick bottom and be a wack a doodle without it too, im just paying attention to myself, I’ve not gone back to work yet either and I have a high level of emotions of ups and downs daily there, time will tell!! Thanks everybody!!!

Why did you stop taking it? They gave me my Lexapro in the hospital after surgery. For the first few weeks after surgery I was really emotional and everything was off-kilter, but then went back to normal. (My normal "just super anxious but not insanely cry-y" self) Your new feelings may be temporary and you may need the Cymbalta again. I'd definitely ask your psychiatrist if you should have stopped taking it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
