When did you get blood tests?

Recommended Posts

I don't go back to the surgeon until the 6 month appointment. They didn't say anything about blood work.

When did you get labs drawn to check for deficits? Is it annually after that?

Min3 is 3 months, 6 months and then if things check out perfect, yearly the rest of your thinned- down life! I was getting weekly blood draws while I had my PICC line and was on TPN, so they used the appropriate ones to satisfy the quota. Mine were drawn at the hospital😝

I got checked at 3 months and 6 months. Then at 12 months, and then annually after that.

I did have a two week and one month visit, though.

I actually had a lot more visits because I had complications, but the two week and one month was regularly scheduled to check incision sites, etc.

I get the lab slip at my 4 month appointment so that the results are available at my 6 month appointment. Nurse says they expect patients to be nutritionally deficient for the first 6 months

My PA told me they only do labs if there is problems. I'm like what? Will probably insist at my 6 month checkup. Love my PA though.

Whaaaa? How do they know if there's a problem without labs? lol. You could have a Vitamin deficiency without any symptoms (like I did with Vitamin D).

Like I said, I will insist on labs. I agree with you. 😊

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
