ypease 177 Posted April 23, 2019 How many of you you have or did lay in supplies (nutritional items, Vitamins, eat) prior to your surgery? Did you think this is a good or not so good idea? My surgery date isn't until 10/1/19, so I have plenty of time to figure this out. I just don't want to find myself purchasing unnecessary items. Any thoughts? 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
gabybab 696 Posted April 23, 2019 Don't do like I did and purchase stuff. I would say maybe Vitamins and a Protein supplement. I gave away 90% off what I bought, and it was a lot! My taste buds changed so much. I couldn't stomach whey afterwards. I used fairlife milk and yogurt. Good luck! 2 Frustr8 and Bari_KS reacted to this
ypease 177 Posted April 23, 2019 Thank you! That was what I was wondering about. I see so many folks post that their taste totally changes or they can't tolerate some things after surgery. I really want to thank you for your input. I will take the minimalist approach and maybe try some samples as well. Having a few months to plan for my surgery has been good in some respects and not so good in others. Again, thank you very, very much. 2 Frustr8 and ARMoma45 reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted April 23, 2019 I stocked up on lots of varieties of liquids (Gatorade Zero, diet caffeine free peach iced tea, crystal light), sugar-free popsicles, and sugar-free pudding. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
CurvyMom 386 Posted April 23, 2019 I have boxes of Jello and pudding I still haven't made- I realized fast i hate jello unless it's jello shots LOL and i have cartons of broth - slowly trying to cook things with broth. Grab some Protein Water, Protein Shakes (but just enough for maybe a week if you have easy access to stores- I was out shopping in a few days)....find a broth you like and just get the bare minimum. Otherwise you could waste a lot of money 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
S@ssen@ch 745 Posted April 23, 2019 I wouldn't recommend stockpiling in any way. You don't know how your body and your tastes will react after surgery. Examples: I planned on the vitamin patches, spent more than $100 on them. Within a couple weeks of surgery, I had an allergic reaction to the adhesive. $100+ in the trash I tried more Vitamin types in the first month or 2 than I can recall. So many of them tasted horrible or flat out made me sick, even ones I had taken before surgery. I LOVED Premier ready-to-drink Protein Shakes before surgery. I drank one every day for months (maybe a couple years). After surgery, I couldn't stand them. I tried several different kinds of Protein supplements. Lots are sitting around to this day and probably should be tossed. Finally settled on something I tried years before (when I had lap band), Unjury. But, I'll tell you, I generally do not like all that sweetness anymore. My doctor sent me home with a "care pack" of sorts, with lots of samples. That helped a lot with the vitamin testing stage. He even included 2 or 3 protein supplements in various forms (powders and ready to drink). That saved me some $, but didn't really stop all the trials and failures. My recommendation, plan only for your immediate post op period where you'll mostly be on liquids. Have some varieties and try a few things out. *In those first few weeks you'll find yourself eating (drinking the same things over/over). Do not spend a lot of money and do not have enough for an army. You certainly won't need it because you won't be able to tolerate much at any given time. Helpful hint: I pre-made 4oz Jello servings in little gladware containers. Much cheaper than those pre-packaged ones at the store and for me, they were the most satisfying items in the first week. 1 DWentz reacted to this
mgrand 81 Posted April 25, 2019 I completely agree with all of the above. Buy only what you think you'll need for the first few weeks. My tastes change almost daily but there are some Protein powders that I never could stand. Also, Vitamins. Ughh. I can't tolerate any of the bariatric vitamins so far. smiling.again.finally 8 Posted September 30, 2019 I agree with the Gatorade! I realized I am currently lactose intolerant and the Gatorade was a huge help in making sure I didn't get dehydrated from the reaction to the lactose in the shakes I tried when I got home.Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
