Month Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to this app but figured I’d download it for some support and questions.I am a month post surgery and a little worried.I can still barely eat any solid foods and my tastebuds have changed so much I can’t stand the taste of the Protein shakes.I can consume a decent amount of liquid ow sugar juices etc but warm Water hurts my tummy (weird I know) I am so hungry but I know it’s because I lack protein since I refuse to drink the drinks
.I tried some noodles the other day and they went down pretty well but I’m afraid to eat them again because noodles are carbs which turn into sugar.HELP ☹️

Your story sounds like mine. I hated the whey after surgery. It would make me gag, so I drank fairlife milk, high Protein yogurt and cheese. I also did refried Beans, and cottage cheese. Good luck!

Hi! Congratulations on getting the surgery.

I am little over one month and have had red Beans (the Cajun kind) and it has helped me a lot. It is soupy but still requires you to chew or blend it. Has helped me go to the restroom and literally add some spice to my life.

Low fat mozzarella cheese sticks have been good too. I eat them slowly. Also I found if I need to drink a Protein Shake ...I turn on the TV and distract myself while drinking the darn thing. I have been drinking a lot of peppermint and cinnamon tea a little warm. Helps me with getting hydrated. Hang in there!

Try the unflavored Protein packs in some of the foods or liquids you can manage( Celebrate 20g) I get it. The Protein Drinks suck, I even drink fairlife milk (13gr of protein) to help me with my intake. I can't stand those powders nor do I like the chocolate taste of the protein drinks.. so I had to improvise to ensure my protein but I still fall short sometimes, but remember to keep pushing you will get your routine in place soon enough!.

I'm a month post op and my best friend are the Isopure clear drinks. They have different flavors and they come in powder so you can prepare yourself or liquid for on the go. each 10 oz has 20 gr of Protein. It's a great way to get your protein levels. Have you tried eating chili? It's high in protein and you can blend it to make it sofeter.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
