Problems keeping anything down?

Recommended Posts

I was just banded yesterday, but I cannot keep any liquids or anything down... I just throw it right back up.. I think its the gas pushing it back up but I was wondering if anyone else had any problems the next days after swallowing any Water, crystal light, Jello, or the liquid pain medication?

Ashley I was banded on the 15th but I know my doc said that sometimes with the swelling you can be completely closed. I would call. I am drinking fluids and taking liquid meds fine. You don't want to get dehydrated and you need to get some pain management. Did they give you any suppositories or anything for nausea?

So it is feeling blocked really, not like nausea. I bet it is the swelling. My doctor told me to call if I couldn't get Water down. Did they fill your band at all during surgery? I know my doctor said if he thought we had room during surgery and there wasn't much trauma in the placement to cause swelling, he would fill us a few cc's? Maybe you need to be emptied until the swelling is gone if this is the case. How are you dealing with no pain medicine?

I vomited every 10 or 15 minutes (not even an ice chip would stay down) for over 24 hours after surgery last week. I finally remembered some dramamine in my purse (I was banded in Mexico, and was apparently not getting the right thing for nausea) and took one. After about 45 minutes, I fell asleep and woke up several hours later feeling much better. The following day I had the feeling somewhere between a hiccup and the urge to vomit. I think it was caused by the tube they stuck down my throat. It must have scratched or irritated something. Anyway, by the third day I was feeling fine. If you can take phenergan or something, do it, otherwise try sleeping it off. It sure did help for me.

Ashely, i just watched a show where the Dr. sister was banded and she had your problem. this was months after surgery and they just let out a little Fluid. they were taking it very serious that she was blocked. i would get to the E.R. and they should be able to let out some Fluid

Thingrtwo:omg:

I just got back from the doctors office. I finally got hold of someone, and told them that I havent been able to keep anything down and they told me to come in immediately. He just took out all of my fluids from my band and I feel so much better... I now have to wait 6 weeks for a fill but oh well I can now swallow a sip of Water and take my pain medicine.

Thanks for the advise guys!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
