Feeling full or gassy?!

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve done on April 16, 2019. I’m currently in my full liquids stage. When I drink Water or eat Jello or just consume anything within the rules so to say, I can’t tell if my stomach hurts because I’m full or gassy. I’ve been burping a lot after surgery but past two days I have been having a lot of gas (TMI, sorry). Anyone feel the same?

Hey rosekay!

I actually had my VSG on April 17, 2019, so I’m still on my Clear Liquids. Anyways, I have the exact same feeling after I drink anything. Whether I take the tiniest of sips or just a normal little sip, hot or cold, i always get some terrible gas pains after a couple sips. I’ve read a few things that it’s normal for up to a week, and that it’s just your new stomach adjusting still. But I too have the same gas, stuck in my stomach feeling.

Hi Jon!

Yeah, it feels very weird. That’s why it confuses me on whether it’s gas or pain from being full. However, I measure everything just to be safe.

Also, look out for the dumping syndrome. I freaked out but when I called my nurse, she said it’s normal and it’s supposed to happen.

Congratulations on your VSG and best of luck ツ

I had my sleeve performed on April 17th as well and I am experiencing similar symptoms. For some reason the pain is worse with chicken broth. It tends to come and go. Have either of you started planning for the next stage?

My doc recommended chewable GasX. It was a lifesaver! I’m 8 days post op. Surgery- 4/15/19.

I took max amount daily for first 5 days.  Now just when discomfort hits!  I’d love to hear more from y’all.  I’m on full liquids now.

I am so ready! All of the liquids and Proteins are sweet or chicken broth. I so need savory in my life. I am hoping to purée some squash, carrots, deviled eggs- minus a few ingredients- next week.

How are y’all doing otherwise? I have one incision and spot that is still quite sore. Otherwise no pain. A little tired, but doing well and weight loss has been good so far.

My pain has been very minimum. I never took any pain medication, in fact I refused the script for narcotics. I’m still gassy at times but it comes and goes. I go back to the surgeon tomorrow and hopefully will start the purées stage. I’m trying to find things to eat that won’t gross me out in this texture. I’m glad your doing well. I know I’m losing weight because my pants fell down to my ankles yesterday when I was walking in the garage. It might be time for a belt.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
