Jon_gets_skinny 53 Posted April 18, 2019 Hey everyone, So I had my surgery yesterday, got the leak test completed and all is well to start my clear liquid diet. My question is, every time I seem to drink something, (I’m only taking very tiny sips) but I get serious like gas burping pain... has anyone had this feeling after surgery? If so, how long did it last? I cant drink as much as I should because of this awkward burping gas I get. Thank you!
Colorado Cowgirl 170 Posted April 18, 2019 I couldn't eat or drink much the day after surgery. I mostly drank Water an ounce at a time very slowly. I am only two 1/2 weeks out and frequently burp and pass gas. I always feel better when I do. I think it's normal.
Jon_gets_skinny 53 Posted April 18, 2019 So when you drank Water, you get a lot of gas in your stomach too?
justmetj 421 Posted April 19, 2019 I had it and it would happen even when I stood up. I think there's a lot of residual gas left in our system after the surgery not to mention swelling. It was like a dull ache at the top of my stomach/chest area when I would drink and it felt like I had to burp but couldn't. Heating my liquids, even the Water, helped me a lot. It went away after about a week.
Jon_gets_skinny 53 Posted April 19, 2019 Thanks for the reply justmej, that helps ease my mind a little bit because that’s exactly how I’m feeling. Like stomach/chest area have a dull ache like I have to burp but can’t. So glad that this is normal feeling 1 justmetj reacted to this
OhMyGracious! 26 Posted April 22, 2019 My dr recommended gasx chewable. Some of the gas is from the surgery. It goes away after a few days. I’m Day 7 post op. If I gulp, it hurts. Really have to pace myself and sip, sip, sip.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 22, 2019 Walk around, sometimes the motion will free it up a little. And like prior poster, warm liquids and things help.😋👍😝
Jon_gets_skinny 53 Posted April 22, 2019 Thank you! Warm Soups definitely helps and been trying to stay active by walking around everyday. It’s been slowly getting better so going to give it a few more days.
solymar2 4 Posted April 24, 2019 I'm having the same problem 5 days post-op. Warm liquids hasn't made it any better for me. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 24, 2019 This may sound dumb but put your heating pan on your tummy , it might help relax things enough that the gas burps up. 1 solymar2 reacted to this
xring3 39 Posted April 24, 2019 You may have to get used to it. I had my sleeve surgery in 2013 and still have constant gas. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
