I am looking to have the sleeve surgery and my insurance does not cover any bariatric surgery. I am looking for affordable self-pay options in the USA. Any suggestions?

I used Dr Borland in New Iberia, LA, great experience. There is a guy that does VSG in Birmingham for about $9000 as well. I've seen ads for a place in Las Vegas. Expect to spend $9-$10k plus incidentals for US.

I had mine done at Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas on May 15, 2019. They have a 'concierge' type program set up for out of town patients, very efficient. They include lodging at a nice hotel and transportation. I had a good experience and would recommend them to anyone wanting the gastric sleeve.

I'm being quoted $18000 for a "package" deal for self pay gastric sleeve. The $18000 does not include the anestheiologist charges. Do you know how much the Las Vegas doctor charges? I have insurance but they will pay a max of $7500 for gastric surgery which makes it way more expensive to use the insurance then it does to self pay. I'm looking for alternative places to get it done (in the US). Any help would be appreciated.

One more question. A friend suggested I do a search for other centers like Blossom. Does anyone know what kind of search parameter to google? Everything I’m doing just brings up regular Bariatric centers vs self pay places like blossom. Somewhere on here I saw TX mentioned but can’t figure out how to find it on the web. Thanks in advance.

I did a lot of searching didnt find much in the way of self pay that was close to Blossom. I had my sleeve there on 12/23. You need to have commercial insurance (meaning just regular insurance as opposed to medicare or medicaid) and they'll check your benefits to see if you qualify for self pay. They make the process really easy.

I also used Dr. Shillingfird in Florida. He was absolutely awesome. I paid a total of 10k which is all inclusive. Nothing more or less. I would pick him if had to do it all over again. FYI I travelled from The Bahamas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
