Lizbethj 22 Posted April 16, 2019 Honestly I miss coffee . I’m one month post op and I haven’t been able to drink coffee because Decaf is just horrible . The taste for me just doesn’t sit will . I used to buy the unsweetened Starbucks cold brew from Walmart . Will I be okay if I have a little ? I am dying for some lol . Decaf and me will never be friends . GradyCat 3,695 Posted April 16, 2019 My surgeon never said I couldn't have coffee. But I guess the caffeine acts as an appetite stimulant? I have always just drank Decaf. 1 PrettyMess13 reacted to this
ItsABearDance 21 Posted April 16, 2019 My nutritionist said I could have coffee a month after surgery, but to be vigilant about acid reflux if I do decide to drink it since the two are associated. I would check with what your Dr says since everybody has different opinions.
catwoman7 11,220 Posted April 16, 2019 there doesn't seem to be a consensus among surgeons re: caffeinated coffee. Some say never, some say right away, some say to wait a month - or three months - or six months. Some say it's OK if limited to 1-2 cups a day. My guess is although there may be some valid concerns, it might not be a harmful as say, NSAIDs. I think the issue with caffeine is that it's dehydrating, and the issue with coffee in general (even decaf) is that's it's acidic, which can be hard on healing pouches. I had to wait on caffeinated coffee until I was six months out, and I'm still supposed to limit it to one cup a day (which admittedly, I don't....but I did wait six months). But I know people whose surgeons said they could start drinking it right away, so...?? 1 sillykitty reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 16, 2019 Don't know if coffee is always an appetite stimulant but it makes a Dandy Diuretic. And for me, it seemed to stimulate defecation, always had a post- Breakfast 💩daily.
FancyChristine15 810 Posted April 16, 2019 I drink cold brew coffee daily, and have had no acid reflux issues, and it hasn't increased my appetite or anything. I started drinking it again a couple of months after my surgery. 1 shanshan reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,430 Posted April 16, 2019 (edited) I'm a HUGE fan of coffee but an even BIGGER fan of listening to your team. Go with their recommendations first and foremost then do what you are most comfortable with. There are low acid coffee varieties that are not Decaf, ways to make your own half caf cold brews, or straight up coffee etc etc But 2 yrs down the line you don't want to second guess or bewail coffee as an issue. Good Luck 💜 Edited April 16, 2019 by GreenTealael
PrettyMess13 3 Posted April 16, 2019 I see a lot of posts on Instagram of people putting Jordan's Skinny syrups in their coffee. Zero calories and zero sugar...lots of different flavors. Maybe try them? Not sure if you can have these syrups being one month post-op, but it's something to look forward to in the future to spice up Decaf.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 16, 2019 Torani makes nice syrups too, a little pricey for me but then- who's. more worthwhile than ME? 1 Colorado Cowgirl reacted to this

I think it’s just the decaf coffee itself because I’ve tried different brands and they were all horrible 😂

If they’re sugar free my doc says go for it just doesn’t help the Decaf at all 🤦🏽♀️
