And I hope you" June Bugs" don't mind me hanging with you some, the camaraderie here is great! I will be one year on September 5th, but my recovery is weird, somethings I am not so far ahead of you "NOT-YETTERS " as you would think. I have had strictures, ulcerations of my jejunem, Protein anemia, malnourishment, a week re-hospitalization,A PICC line inserted and was on TPN supplementation 12 hours a day for 3 months, dropped the extra weight after that 30 pounds in a month, and now I am losing like I should have in the begining. Now 214 down from 365+, ready to go into 18s after being a 28-30W and I am THRILLED. My future RNY sisters, don't worry that you will emulate me, I just healed weird, I am 73 years old, that might have some bearings but I am so SPECIAL it STINKS! But I remain basically upbeat, there is enough GOOD happening to outweigh the BAD. A twisted path to recovery but I shall make it and so shall each and every one of YOU! ❤you all! FRUSTR 8

Frustr8, I like your spunk........I hope things are coming around for you. It seems as though they are. I am slowly trying to get my mental state in order. Next week, there will be no hamburgers, chicken or anything just my Protein Shakes and water😲. My mom asks me everyday, "Are sure about this?..... Have you made your mind up?!!" And I am like, "Yup!!! I've had a good run and now it's time to do this!!" I know next week by day 2 of the liquid diet I will probably be ready to slice my Riley (my pug) open and eat him (just joking).😨 But for this week, I will be enjoying those "last tastes" of the future forbidden fruits..😉

Brooklyn,

Welcome to the JuneBunch. You will do just fine. Although, my surgery date is June 3rd (and I am new to the WLS community), this place is awesome for support/education. And you just might pick up a friend or 2. 😀

thanks I agree this is an awesome place. I will be on here quite a bit and check with you after your surgery

And you could also be holding Riley like he was a security blanket against it all. My surgeon found I had NASH,let's see if I can spell it right Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatisis, well that's pretty close. Means obesity has made your liver fatty, a fat liver needs more retraction, a person on BP about a year or so ago, surgeon went ahead, accidentally tore her liver and she DID NOT have a pleasant recovery. Okay I was given a choice of 2-3-4 Weeks of his liver-shrinking diet, I did the whole31 days of August, call me an over-achevier but I wanted that critter SHRUNK and it did work, I had a slender, smooth and pliable liver for him on surgery day. I got to Have a Lean Cuisine type dinner entree, just had to be 130 cal or under. And there are actually many tasty ones there. O I do believe they will get better, I am a survivor in a sea of wimps And Give It Up people, I came into this world, red-headed, kicking and screaming and I suspect I will leave the same way! In the meantime, in between time, HERE I BE!

I am doing two shakes, a Protein bar and one light meal. I don't have a pre op liver shrinking diet other than 3 days of liquids before surgery but I'm trying to do one anyway to get myself used to eating less. I feel like I'm getting used to it

I just want you females to know that "us "males are on here too. I was seating thinking a lot of you have given birth before and yet you're still concern about this. As a male I can't compare the concern of this surgery to giving birth. I would guess the closest I can compare is being a US Army vet., who was worried (but not scared) while sitting outside a small village in the pitch dark night in a sandy country and telling the young troops I was blessed with being in command of " We Got This". Going through this journey ( my surgery date is 5 June) and reading all these stories and words of encouragement from those here... I feel strong ...like " I got this ... Thanks

Hey everyone! My name is Carter. I’m 22 years old, living happily with my husband, dog, and two rabbits! My surgery is in TWO days!! It’s been a really long road, and I’m beyond nervous. It’s really good to see others who are having their surgery soon as well!

Hello All,

I had my endoscopy 2 weeks ago on Thursday, I will call to follow up on the biopsy. Though usually no news is good news in regards to testing. I have an appt. Thursday for update on my blood work. I am also awaiting insurance approval and that will be it. I am sure it will be scheduled in June. I am getting super excited. I finally got insurance March of 2018 & I hadn't been to a Dr. in years. I have lots of negative family health history and a lot of my blood work showed that I had inherited it. I went on vacation in May of 2018 & was so out of breath I thought I was having a heart attack. When I got back I began researching procedures. I began the process in October 2018. I slowed down at the beginning of 2019. I received a major promotion that took a lot of my time in training & my first grand daughter was born in February. There was so much going on, I wanted to be able to concentrate on the program. I am definitely ready. I plan on getting gastric bypass. I have really bad heart burn. Type 2 Diabetes, High Cholesterol. Depression, anxiety. A whole bunch of medicine I want to get off of. I want to be healthy and be alive in 50years. I am 44 yrs old. 5ft 7 inches. HW: 296 lbs. CW: 288. Ready to join the losers bench and to live my best life!

More testing! Grrr. The hospital called this afternoon to inform me that I need more pre-op testing. (Blood tests, ekg, chest Xray, etc.) I told them I did all of that already and was told those tests were for insurance approval; these are pre-op tests. So I'll be spending Saturday in the hospital, trying to get these tests done in one shot. After 6 months of jumping through hoops and a million co-pays later, I'm over it. Sorry for the vent. I'm just tired.

When I went for my pre surg labs they informed me . Why ? I had my blood donor, said A rh-. my lab.s from my local hospital always states that on Page #1 of their print-outs I am given. So my insurance, had to pay for another typing, did they honestly think it could have changed during the 50 mile ride down?,Sometimes some people are strange about the strangest things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
