Medications immediately after surgery

Recommended Posts

Wondering what everyone's experience has been with taking your prescribed medications immediately after your surgery. I am on two different antidepressants and can't take several weeks off from taking them right after my sleeve surgery. Has anyone had any experience with this? Surgeon said if it goes down the esophagus it will fit in the stomach. But I don't think he meant the day after surgery? Any words of advise are welcome.

Hi, I take one and my doctor had me take it up to Surgery and started back three days after. Just make sure they know what medication it is.

I started taking my prescription medication as soon as I got home from the hospital and had no trouble swallowing them. The surgeon explained that they'll still absorb

I take two psych meds, and was told that as long as they were not extended release I could take them right away. I've had no problems taking them, and they seem just as effective as begire surgery. Im 19 days post surgery.

I cut mine in half. That seems to work but I wait 10 minutes between pills.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
