I was sleeved 3 yrs ago and am now 32 wks pregnant. I’ve been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and my OB wants to put me on insulin, because my fasting numbers run a little high - typically 102-103, when they want it under 95.

I have been searching for info on the impact of the sleeve surgery and BG levels. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any resources I can share with her?

I’ve controlled my levels very well with diet and can prove that I’m literally “high” for 2 or so hours a day, and that is still not high to me, as they want it under 120 after meals, throughout the day.

My OB gave me the wrong advice on prenatal Vitamins because she’s not experienced with gastric surgery patients.

I refuse to go on insulin for this (what I consider) minor influx a couple hours, a few times a week! I just need to find some info to educate her because I believe this is partially due to the surgery and how my body processes sugar now.

Why are you opposed to going on insulin for your pregnancy?

Might be a blow to your ego to resort to insulin, but don't you really want what is best for Junior or Little Princess that you are carrying, read somewhere that post-Bariatric babies are usually 6.5 to 7.5 pounds instead of 9 or 10 pounds, Don't know know what magazine or website I saw it on!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
