I’ve read some old threads on post op pain, but for those who are going through this right now (mine was 4/10), how is your pain?

I feel like yesterday (day after surgery) was excruciating. Today may be mildly better, but I want to cry every time I stand up/sit down or walk. I have a high pain tolerance, so this is freaking me out a bit. I anticipated more soreness than pain. I have some pressure from gas, but it’s really the left side of my abdomen near the incision where the stomach was taken out that’s killing me.

I’m also constantly sipping during a hours when I’m awake. Everything burns going down. Milk may be the easiest to drink. I am definitely not hitting Water and Protein goals because I am going so slowly, as hard and I’m trying.

Day of,I was dopey and in and out of consciousness. Day after was the worst, I didn’t want my kids to come visit me. I didn’t want them to see me in such pain, I thought it might scare them. By day 2 I was so much better. Just sore and tender

Thanks! I think hearing that people were sore at this point makes me nervous. I know everyone heals differently, I really didn’t anticipate so much pain.

I had 2 c sections and this sleeve surgery was way worse in comparison.

I thought I was dying. I had oxycodone and hydrocodone and I took both for probably 7 days. It was a lifesaver. so, if you can, take the pain medicine and it will make it easier.

Best wishes on your recovery!

I was in terrible amounts of pain for close to two weeks. The first week was a scene straight out of hell. My pain was always near a 7 or 8. It never got below that while I was in the hospital. I'm a month out now and my stomach is just a little sore.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
