Cassie0501 1 Posted April 12, 2019 Hi, I’m scheduled to have bypass surgery in 5 days. I already had my pre op appointment and all labs came back fine. I was smoke free for over 20 days. I recently smoked and was wondering if I will be tested for nicotine prior to surgery on the day of? Please help I’m nervous.

I figured they wouldn’t loss out on all of that money and do it but who knows.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 12, 2019 Not if your surgeon feels you would be a Non- Healing risk. And also you've distressed and restressed your Lung Tissue and you really needed it at Peak Efficiency. Never smoked and I had gotten sleep Apnea, haven't been able to ditch my C*Pap, and I would be worse I believe if I had more history than just Second-Hand Smoke! But I do wish you success and hope things work in YOUR favor in a few days! ❤😝❤
SusieQ2019 567 Posted April 12, 2019 I am not a smoker but regarding whether or not the surgeon will not do the surgery. My nurse told us that if we do not follow the pre OP the surgeon will stop the surgery and not move forward. Sometimes it's not about the money. Safety of the patient comes first. Wishing you luck with your surgery. 1 LearningToLoveMeAgain reacted to this
