Where am I going wrong?

Recommended Posts

This is pretty typical... exercise is very low because I'm recovering from a catheter ablation and prolapsed disc. I will be gradually upping my step count ...

Sometimes we're doing everything right but our bodies just need a break from losing. They weren't designed to lose weight. I'm in a stall now at 16 weeks and just have to wait through it.

I wish it all made sense to me! By eating such a low calorific diet, my logical brain makes huge assumptions that it would relate to a corresponding weight loss.

I've decided to book with a nutritionist who specialises in BED and bariatrics who may help me change something in my plan to kick start the loss...but I'm so petrified of sabotaging things that I'm almost locked into thinking that no action is better than doing something that will have a negative effect!!

I don't think anything is necessarily going wrong. You had surgery a little over 5 months ago and have lost 63 pounds? Is that from your surgery weight or did you lose some before your procedure? 63 pounds in 5 months is great progress! Some people lose faster than others, some slower. No one is the same but you seem to be doing a great job from the look of your food diary. Keep up the good work!

Hey sweetie. Can't see your Protein? Cals look fine. Carbs might be too restrictive. Maybe add some avocado and a few more veg? Ditch the Cadbury's ;) It only keeps your sweet tooth rev'd up. Also try to cut back on the liquid sweetener for the same reason. Try upping to 750cals per day, 25g whole carb, 60-80g protein and see what it gets you. Fill the rest of your cals up with fat.

So for instance:

750 cals per day =

60g protein X 4cals/g = 240cals from protein OR 80g protein X 4cals/g from protein = 320cals

25g carbs X 4cals/5 = 100cals

240 + 100 OR 320 + 100 cals = 340cal OR 420cals

750-340=410cals from fat left for the day OR 750-420=330cals from fat left for the day

420 cals divided by 9cals/g = 47g of fat OR 330 cals divided by 9cals/g = 37g of fat

So...in capsulation:

For 750 cals for the day, and since you're healing, I'd probably look at doing 80g of protein and see how I do.

750 cals; 80g protein; 25g carbs; 37g fat; g fiber=try for as much Fiber as you can in 25g of total carbs.

OR you can do

750 cals; 60g protein; 25g carbs; 47g fat; g fiber=try for as much fiber as you can in 25g of total carbs.

Hope this helps!!!

I think the Cadbury's is a brand of milk or Creamer for her tea in England? Not the Easter candy us Yanks are used to.

Ohhhhh! LOL. I identify with anything "Cadbury's" being bunny related.

Hi KC - my starting weight was before the pre-op diet. I lost 7lbs on the pre-op diet and my weight at surgery was 295lbs.

Hi FC - my Protein for yesterday was 81... I'll cut down on the cadburys chocolate drink (gulp!) - it will be tricky as it feels so important for me to have a self-indulgence (macros for the drink are: 38cals, 4g carbs, 1.3g fat & 1.8g protein). and yes, the Stevia will cut by half. I was having 30g blueberries and 2 strawberries on most days but have cut those out as blueberries are quite high in carbs... talk about living like a nun!!

That was my first reaction too! I was like "her food diary looks so good why is she eating Cadbury's?!" Then I saw the calories for it ...... wait what?

Ugh hon! It's so frustrating trying to hack our own bodies. I'd try cutting out the chocolate drink for a week or two and replace it with tea (Earl Grey, or dandelion, or camomille at night) and see what happens? Or maybe only do the choco drink on the weekends?

The other thing is that you just had surgery again and that can play hell with your weight loss. Also, if you are on any meds like beta blockers, that can impact your weight loss.

I think your diet looks really good if maybe a tiny bit low cuz of healing? Hang in there. You are doing everything right!

So 57 pounds since surgery. It's still really good process! I think youre doing well and there isn't anything wrong with little indulgences to keep you sane (in my opinion). 38 calories from the Cadburys shouldn't be that harmful.

My untrained eye doesn't see anything glaring in your macros (except maybe your sodium is a little high?)...maybe some of the more "veteranized" people can chime in.

But yeah, taking to your nutritionist/dietician is a good step. Good Luck, and keep us posted, I'd be interested in hearing what they would have to say.

As @GradyCat mentioned, stalls happen...also, you may try taking your measurements, you may not see changes on the scale, but you may see them in inches, and the way your clothes fit.

Well ... I think I'm understanding my anxiety around the speed of my weight loss. I think its because all the literature the YouTube videos the FB pages the Instagrammies eventhr bariatric websites all refer to the weight loss window and imply that its finite and will close after a certain period of time and I'm trying to get through the portal before the opportunity closes... And then they all say not to expect more than a 65% loss... I think these facts are building my anxiety and the feelings of failure I'm about to experience once I'm at one year plus ... I need a chill pill 😊

The honeymoon period is somewhere around 6-18 months. During that time, it's supposed to work out that the WLS does quite a bit of the heavy lifting (up to on average that % you see here and there). But honestly, if you look at the VETS, the weight loss (intentional) doesn't stop. It may slow down. But you CAN and people DO still lose. You know? You can lose what you choose. It may be forkin' hard. :) I know every pound I lose is tremendous effort. I honestly feel like I had about a 3 month honeymoon period and everything since then has been craft and planning. :)

You got this. Put the shoulda woulda coulda's aside. And just focus on healing your body and doing the things you know you MUST do in order to succeed in creating a new life with new behaviors and relationships with food and nutrition/healthy living!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
