Did the clear liquid diet weight come back

Recommended Posts

Mine didn't come back, I've been on Mushies for 2 weeks, and have continued to lose. It depends on what you are eating, like anything else of course. It's nice to know that weight loss is yours to keep by and large. Just keep your food choices under control, it takes some creativity sometimes when you are on the mushies.

hi lexiegirl,

my weight didnt come back after being on liquid diet but when i continued to restrict my calories (2-3 weeks after surgery) my weight loss came to a grinding halt.

so the message i took was i had to fuel (eat) my body to lose weight. of course it has to be healthy food.

good luck

It's funny you should ask that. I did Optifast fron 10/11 thru 10/31, lost about 12 pounds. Then I had surgery on 11/1 and did the clear liquids for 2 weeks, The frist week post op I lost 7 pounds. The second wee, NOTHING. This is on clear liquids. I had read a post on here that said the same thing, and when she increased her calories, she started losing again. So I went on to full liquids, and what do you know, I have lost almost 2 pounds after 2 days! My suggestion is that you get enough calories and don't worry about it. You have to have adequate intake to lose, so your body doesn't go into starvation mode!

Yep, you gotta feed the machine for it to work. I try to average around 1000 calories per day, but usually fall short. Just make sure you get the Protein in

You all are very supportive. Thanks for the heads up. I am dying to be on full liquids. I may start my week on Sunday night instead of Monday.

I did not have to do a clear liquid diet before surgery , how ever I do have to do 6 days of liquids , 3 days of mushies and 3 days of semi soilds after every fill and I loose a pretty good amount of weight after that and it doesnt come back. If that's any indication. On average I loose about a pound a DAY post fills for those 6 days So i have had 2 fills so thats 12 pounds that hasnt come back LOL

I haven't been banded yet, but I don't have to do liquids before surgery either! Then after the surgery we have to do one day of clear liquids and then full liquids for a week and then mushy food as we feel we can!

I have not been one to live and die by the red numbers on my scale, however, I was banded on 11/7 and I am rather depressed today.

Preop I chose to do a liquid diet with clear liquids for the last 2 days. This wasnt required by my physician, However, i thought it prudent to get used to the lifestyle immediately post op.

I went in for my 1 week follow up last Thursday and i was down 10 lbs. I started full liquid on Saturday and in these 3 days, I have managed to put 10 lbs back on. :faint:

I haven't even consumed 1000 calories on any given day. Low fat cream Soup and the occasional nonfat-splenda yogurt.

Only difference is, I usually weigh myself in the mornings, today I did it at 5 PM.

I may have been dehydrated when I visited my doc as well.

Any advice on what I am doing wrong? Has anyone else put weight back on after the clear liquid phase?

If I think about my digestive system on clear liquids, I realize that my salt intake is probably down and there is just about nothing in my intestines. When I went on full liquids I started retaining fluids more and there was some stuff down there in my lower g.i. So, it isn't odd that weight would go up a bit when you start giving your body more food. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, your body goes into starvation mode on the clear liquids and tries to conserve the fuel it does get. It takes a while to overcome this, and strangely enough, it takes eating more, not less, to do it.

I'm guessing you were really low on fluids when you were weighed at your doctor's. The other problem I always have is that my scales aren't in perfect sync with the doctor's, so there is always a discrepancy between my weight at home and at the doctor's.

My weight can vary by 3 or 4 pounds during the course of the day. Don't get discouraged; as long as you are eating less the weight will come off. If you are like me, there will be a lot of ups and downs on the way, but the inevitable trend is downward. I usually lose the same three or four pounds three or four times, but finally it goes away for good and I start on the next three or four pounds.

Doesnt sound like you are doing anything wrong. Be sure you get at least 64 oz of liquid per day either with Water, crystal light or any other calorie free drinks. So far my best weght loss is with the Protein shakes twice a day and a small meal of about 4ozs for lunch. Its not as bad as it sounds and the scale moving motivates me more. Also, exercise as much as possible. It really gets the body to burn off excess calories.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
