Very first puree meal, question

Recommended Posts

So, I had my 2 week post op visit with surgeon and nutritionist today, and they gave me the go ahead to start "bland" purees. For lunch I made Cream of Rice, and had the recommended 2 tablespoons. I got a stomach/pouch ache immediately afterwards even though I ate slowly. Is this a sign my pouch is not ready for purees? Or is it normal for the first "meal"?

Sure, your stomach hasn't had "food" yet since a major traumatic event of surgery, so it lets you know. No worries, it's normal.

I tried eating 2 tablespoons of scrambled egg on Monday and it didn't set well so I decided to wait a week or two to try again.

Thanks, Colorado Cowgirl. I'm definitely waiting until tomorrow to try a bit of Greek yogurt. If that doesn't sit well I'll keep waiting.

I'll bet you will tolerate yogurt. It's got all that good bacteria. Good luck!

I are cream of wheat as my first food. I either ate too fast or it was too thick. I thought we were going to have to call the ambulance 🚑🚑 because I was having stomach spasms. It hilarious to think back now lol

My first food was traumatizing for me.

Yep. Avoid the grains. Go for yogurt, kefir, ricotta cheese/ricotta cheese bake, soft scrambled eggs (emphasis on soft), custard, Protein puddings...and only progress slowly slowly.

Thanks, Fluffy. I've had success so far with yogurt and pureed refried Beans diluted with chicken broth. May try ricotta tonite! No more cream of rice! [emoji39]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
