Pre op vitamin deficiencies delay surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for June 20th. The last time I had bloodwork was over a year ago, and I was low in Iron and Vitamin D. I have to have bloodwork within 30 days of my surgery, and I’m wondering if I’m still low, is it likely to delay my surgery? Has anyone’s surgery been cancelled for low iron or Vitamin D?

I was low on Vitamin D and folate. My Dr. prescribed 50,000 units of vitamin D once a week along with a daily dose of folate. I only had two months of the Vitamins before my 4-04-19 surgery and it was not delayed because of it. I was never low on Iron though so you might want to call your Dr. and ask them. Also taking a Multi-Vitamin will help keep your levels up.

My D and Iron were low before and after surgery. It didn't cause any delays. I just took the supplements that my doctor told me to take.

Thank you for the responses. I feel better about that possibility now. 😊

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
