Hello, I got sleeved on March 8th; my blood sugars have been low around 125 average (without pills). My primary says sometimes it takes about 1 - 1-1/2 months to get off medication, but you know everyone is different.

I had Gastric Bypass so it may be different, but I was off all diabetes meds when I got home from the hospital, and my diabetes is in remission!! First few days I couldn't regulate, and had some serious lows. Now, 13 days out, my blood sugar stays between 90-95 all day. Of course I am not eating food though!!!

I am insulin dependent so I started out taking 3 insulin’s and one pill. I only take 2 now and my blood sugar is high some days. I see my endo soon and hopefully we can discuss what’s going on. I really don’t eat much and can’t understand why it’s still high.

I'm 6 weeks post-op and my sugar is just recently lowering. I was so freaked out because the told me to not take anything post surgery. I was running over 200 morning and night and I was eating hardly anything and nothing the first week. I was insulin dependent, but now am running about 150, which is much better.

Hi Rima,

I just found this forum. I am 2 weeks post-op and was on 3 oral diabetes meds + insulin prior. A week after surgery my meter was giving me readings between 64 - 89. This worried me as I have never been that low since I was diagnosed. I called my NP manager and she said, don't worry...this is what normal is. She then took me off my only oral I was crushing. It has been a week and I feel tremendous and my post-op appointment with my surgeon was completely positive. My readings are now almost all in the 80's and I intend to keep them there. He said I'm in remission and it could last for years. Eventually I may have to go back to treating diabetes, but he said it would be a very minimal oral med. Because this is the underlying reason I chose surgery with weight loss secondary, I couldn't be happier! (someone cutting onions?)

Best of luck to you with your journey.

I was on two oral meds, an injectable, and insulin. I was told to stop both orals and the insulin post-op, and I stepped off the injectable within six weeks (dropped from highest to nine during that time. Before surgery I had an A1c of 8.3, now it’s 5.5 with no meds.

I was on 1000mg of metformin 2x per day and around 40 units of insulin and still had an a1c above 7. I went home after surgery on no meds. At my 3 month checkup my a1c was 5.1. I just had a health screening at work the other day (now almost 6 months post-op) and my fasting blood sugar was normal. It feels great to be on this side of diabetes!

Until recently I was on three oral meds for my type 2 diabetes (low doses of metformin and gliclizide, and 25mg of jardiance daily). Last week I was able to discontinue the gliclizide because my A1C is at 7 and I was having regular lows. I'm hopeful that after surgery I'll be able to kick the others to the curb as well.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
