My bypass was done 4/3. On liquid diet and doing OK. Occasional discomfort if I sit a certain way, but otherwise I don’t feel that different than pre-op. I haven’t gotten a “full” feeling after a Protein Shake. I am hungry at times, but getting liquids down has not been a chore. In fact, I forgot about sipping one time and chugged a little on a bottle of Water and there were no consequences. I find myself wondering if I could fill my belly the same as before surgery. I’m grateful for everything, but right now I feel like I just continued my pre-op diet. I know this is strange to say, but I expected a struggle and I am a little concerned there isn’t one. Thoughts are creeping in of whether it was all worth it.  Anyone else feel that way?

You are doing great and it is fine. I felt about the same way but it's definitely a different experience when trying to eat "regular" foods...so just enjoy and take your time with things.

I think you're doing just fine and it's okay to be okay.

you'll be able to tell a huge difference once you start eating solid food. The stuff you're eating right now slides right through, so you're not feeling the restriction yet. Plus your nerves were cut during surgery, too..

I have had ABSOLUTELY NO struggles so I ma in the minority here in that regard. Other than gas pain I did not even know I had surgery.

just watch your intake and you'll be fine!

HaHA... I had the same issue, I was even wondering if maybe they didn't make my pouch small enough because I couldn't feel it very well when I had enough. Ive noticed the softer the food, the less I feel it and the more of it I can eat, I think it slides through easier. The denser the food the less I can eat and the longer it just sits there in my pouch. Hang in there and just follow your plan, it's doing it's job even though it may not feel like it sometimes. :)

I, too, did not experience any issues except for getting in liquids the first two days post op. Now, I’m doing great and it’s so nice to be back to regular food. It’s definitely a different experience than the liquid and puréed phase. Eating slowly and chewing food well are a must.

Keep up the great work (and attitude) on this long and fulfilling journey!

I take it all back. I’m eating one meal a day and I am struggling to find the correct rhythm of liquid, wait, food, wait, liquid without feeling like I can’t get my food down. In a weird way I’m cool with it. Time to get to work!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
