I had a sleeve to MGB revision a few years ago and have had nothing but problems with severe reflux ever since. Does anyone else experience this? It started about 3 or 4 months after with just general reflux in my gut that was remedied with over the counter medicine. It's now so bad that Im seeing a specialist and have to have a series of tests to figure out if they want to perform a new surgery. I basically have reflux so bad that I vomit bile on an almost daily basis and if Im not eating constantly, it just gets worse and worse. I knew reflux was a potential side effect, but had I known it would get so bad that I need another surgery, I don't think I would have ever done this. A couple years later and Im just as overweight as I was and in severe pain on a daily basis. Please understand Im not trying to discourage anyone from surgery, just trying to see if Im the only one. I know these surgeries have great success for so many people

I am a sleeve to MGB. I don’t have reflux but suffer from ulcers. I am below my target weight. I did have bile reflux like you with the sleeve. That is the worst. Who did your surgery?

I'd rather not say who did my surgeries. Im getting worried just even about having to do the tests that they have planned for me. The only thing that keeps the bile from building up and keeps me even somewhat comfortable is having food in my stomach. I have to fast for all the tests and I just know Im going to start vomiting before they even get to the test. Plus my understanding is that for the first one I have to drink something funky....I feel like it's just going to be rough going forward, but it's the only path to make it better overall

Had my third test today, an endoscopy. I was in a twilight sleep, but very aware of what was being said during it (it's always fun when you hear several people in the room saw "WOW"). The doctors were in awe. They said that the pouch that was created to be my new stomach was not made nearly as small as it needed to be. It was basically almost the same size as a normal stomach and because of the locations where they decided to cut, that by body was basically mass producing acid and bile and it caused a large series of ulcers. Once they treat the ulcers, they need to revise the surgery again because this will just keep happening. Hindsight is always 20/20 but the MGB was definitely a mistake for me personally

Just out of curiosity, what was your original surgery? A VSG, correct? I just find it very odd that you went through not one but TWO bariatric surgeries without this issue being corrected. I can imagine the first going wrong but why in the heck would they do the revision without noticing that the sleeve was too large???

I had the same thing happen to me. I am hoping for my revision June 10. Severe reflux, a large pouch on the sleeve and a hernia. When I was complaining of the reflux my doctor said it was my fault because I gained weight. I have something sticking out of my stomach and he just said I don't know what it is. Thank God he did an upper GI and Endoscopy and found my problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
