mousecat88 2,281 Posted April 8, 2019 I started losing my hair 3 weeks out and it hasn't slowed a bit. I've lost about 50% of my hair and have some noticeable bald spots now. I want to dye my hair dark - will the hair dye affect anything? I figure it's totally unrelated since the Hair loss is hormonal and my hair isn't actually DAMAGED and shouldn't break. My hair looks thin and stringy. I am kind of thinking about shaving it totally off even though I would look ridiculous. I don't know what to do. Every day there are clumps in my shower drain I have to remove. Yes, I've tried all the supplements and special shampoos and blahblahblah. I've come to accept it's just going to happen and EVENTUALLY it will stop and everything will regrow... but it's been almost 6 months of this! Prior to surgery, I'd been trying to grow my hair out from a staggered forward bob and it's taken almost two years, so I'd rather not cut it... but when the new hair grows in, will it looks all patchy and uneven in length? Maybe this belongs in rants and raves. lol. Any thoughts on the hair dye?

If you dye your hair dark, your thin roots may show more. I know you said you have tried shampoos, my stylist suggested ColorProf if you are up for trying another. 3 KarenLR75, logicwand and Artista reacted to this
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted April 8, 2019 I'm not sure about the hair dye but from all the befores and afters of women getting their hair cut shorter it almost always looks better in my opinion. 1 Catherine Wible reacted to this
TheNewGiGi 10 Posted April 8, 2019 Personally I don’t think should add any products outside of oils. I think your hair follicles are sensitive. Same thing has happened to me. Black caste oil helps to make your hair thicker. I stand by that religiously. I also take BioSil morning n night to help with growth. The Hair loss will stop, promise. As for dying your hair I would recommend using henna its natural. 🙂 4 logicwand, mousecat88, STLoser and 1 other reacted to this
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) I would also suggest not just an overall dye but maybe highlights as well to give it some dimension. I've been too scared myself to dye my hair while its falling out but now that it's stopped I'm thinking about getting it balayaged Edited April 8, 2019 by KCgirl061 2 mousecat88 and logicwand reacted to this

My hair is a very light brown; it gets blonder over the summer. I used to always dye it a dark red or a really dark brown. I'd really like to do a super dark brown because it looks pretty. 1 Artista reacted to this

So, I totally wanted dark hair with my natural hair as the highlights... but I don't know if it's possible for them to do that. lol. They'd have to pull my natural hair through a cap and dye the rest under it??? I don't even know. I worked in a salon a very long time ago and never saw that happen. KCgirl061 1,532 Posted April 8, 2019 Oh no! It should be easy to find someone that will just foil in the highlights. I don't think very many salons use caps anymore. Torture! 1 KarenLR75 reacted to this
Wickedwinner 140 Posted April 9, 2019 Have you looked into wigs? They make “half” wigs which basically just sit on the scalp and add volume but aren’t too heavy. There are some very natural looking hair pieces on the market that you wear until your hair grows back. I just don't want anything that'll make me sweaty or itchy. Maybe extensions? I have full bangs, too, which are really thin looking. I'll have to find something with bangs. Get the color you like and have your hair dyed to match it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ceramicr 0 Posted June 3, 2022 (edited) I'm sorry to hear that. I think you don't need to fight this issue. In my opinion, you should work with what you got. The best way to go is to use the laser hair removal procedure and be and don't fight with your body. You can look even cooler without hair, especially if you are going to raves. My friend is always doing the full laser hair removal procedure every 6 months, and he is completely fine. If you need a suggestion about a proper company that can help you with this procedure, let me know. SuziDavis 546 Posted September 22, 2022 I know that this post is a couple years old... But for other people who will see it and need advise. The Darker the hair, the more noticeable the thinning will be. The contrast of your scalp and dark hair will definitely stand out. Short cuts with lots of volume is a better option. pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted December 28, 2022 The Hair loss is temporary and it will grow back. I have very dark hair and very fair skin, and you could absolutely see Patches of my scalp. I ended up having to cut my lower-back-length hair into a very short pixie cut around month 4...It's almost down to my shoulders again. It may just be my hair texture but any kind of dye causes me to have a lot of breakage; maybe it would be best to wait until your hair has regrown and is healthy before adding more chemicals into the mix that could hinder your progress?
