What month is the most weight lost?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering, I keep hearing about the “stall” in weight loss, when does that typically happen? What month post op is the most weight lost? I am at my 3 1/2 month and feel like I staled already after 55 lbs. I have about 50 more to go.

most people have their first stall within the first four weeks or so (the third week is the most common). After that, it varies. You'll probably have several stalls on your journey. Most people lose the most weight during the first month - although a lot of that is probably Water.

Usually it is the first month that is the biggest, even with the third week stall, as there is a big slug of Water weight that gets lost at the outset. If someone loses a lot on a pre-op diet, they may have already lost that water weight so that their first month post op may be lower than someone who didn't diet ahead of time. In either case, we usually have a slowly declining loss rate as we proceed as it simply takes fewer calories to move us around at 300 lb than we were at 400 lb. and fewer still at 200 lb vs. 300 lb. Just a general trend, as some months may be higher or lower than adjacent months, and we stair step our way down - we may go through several days or even weeks with little or no loss (or even a bit of gain - that water weight thing again) and then, boom - a big loss that gets us back on trend again.

Within that, and beyond the semi-normal third week stall, stalls may happen at any time - or not at all.

55 down! you are doing great.

There is no way to predict if or when a stall can happen. We are all different. Your best weight loss is the first months when your surgery restriction is tight. Your restriction will become less as you progress.

Keep working your plan and the weight will come off.

As some have said above, there is no one answer that is going to accurately apply to everyone. I was told that the first 6 months are when I would lose the most weight, and I've found that to be true. I am still losing weight though, and I'd say I average about 2 pounds a week still, which I am happy with. If you eat, drink, and exercise like you should, you'll more than likely lose the weight.

I lost the most in the first 2 months, stalled for 8 weeks, then started losing again, but much slower. I think it's different for everyone. I'm 5.5 months out and have 57 pounds left.

I'm 4 months out today and have only lost 35 pounds. I know I shouldn't say "only." I had in infamous Week 3/Week 4 stall, which it seems as though most people experience, then now I have been stalled 2 weeks at Weeks 14 -16 which it seems a few other members are experiencing as well. I lost the most weight my first two months. Now it's slowing down.

It's all dependent on what you do.. but ya the first couple months when your body is healing from the surgery can be very effective. But ya.. signing up for a new plan of life eating wise can have big changes too.. further on. Taking out all the bad and doing your best to keep to a set plan are as important as the surgery itself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
