Doing well for weeks then sudden pain?

Recommended Posts

Almost 7 weeks post bypass. I have been able to eat and drink without much issue. Last night I had about 2 ounces of salmon. Felt ok but full, drank some Water about an hour later and it felt full compared to my normal to the point that I skipped my chewable Vitamin. But not painful.

Then this morning I had some water, later went to have a shake and it’s uncomfortable. I tried about 4 oz over 30 min and switched to water.

Then I got 12 ounces of the water in about an hour without issue.

I went back to the shake and it was really painful with one sip. I even got a little nauseous. So water only the rest of the day. It feels kind of tight. I later tried a few ounces of the shake and it seemed ok.

So now I tried a quarter of a piece of cheese (had it before without issue). Now I have an ache in the middle of my back like I did earlier today.

I don’t have any sign of a leak no fever high heat rate etc.

Could trying salmon make me feel ok initially but 12 hours later feel bad.

Today when I drink I do burp some occasionally.

I have no idea what’s going on and I’m worried something is wrong.
Any ideas??

I know , not very helpful but call your surgeon if your symptoms continue .

I agree - call your surgeon. It could be something simple, like progressing too fast in your diet, or it could be the beginning of a stricture. Just monitor it and also let your surgeon know what's going on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
