Ladies — post op period

Recommended Posts

My first period a few weeks post op was horrendous. Comparable to after delivering a child. I read this is normal but my question is does this last just 1-2 cycles or does it take 6 months plus to return to your pre op normal?

My periods have been more regular/predictable. I think I have less cramping now than I did before surgery/weight loss, but the blood loss is horrific. It's a lot heavier than it ever was before. I also have terrible cramping mid-cycle when I'm ovulating, which is new. I had to leave work early last week because I was worried I had appendicitis or something. I'm seeing my OB/GYN in early May to discuss an endometrial ablation or some other option to reduce the bleeding.

Mine have been all over the place since surgery, but I also started birth control around the same time as surgery, so I put my body through a lot of changes at one time.

I'm dreading my first post-op period, which is due at any time. It was supposed to start the day of surgery, but....**shrugs**
My pre-op periods were never too pleasant, so I'm freaking out a little bit about the first on post-op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
