Abdominal pains 1 year post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've had gastric bypass surgery on the 13th of April last year and lost 130lbs so far, which is great. The past few months a lot of old eating habits slipped back into my diet, and I started eating junk food frequently again. However, I still didn't regain any weight due to my physically intensive job.

This Monday I decided it was time to flip the switch again and go back to the healthy habits I taught myself - Proteins first, no junk food, getting enough Fiber and drinking more Water. All went well, until Wednesday night when I woke up and my stomach felt unwell. I didn't think much of it and assumed it would pass, but once I arrived at work the pain got pretty bad, especially when standing up straight. The only way to relieve the pain is by sitting down or bending forward.

Last night I couldn't lay down properly, and only got 2 hours of sleep. Today, the pain comes and goes and it tends to get worse after eating a meal. When sitting down it's bearable and I just feel bloated, but once I stand up it's like there's a giant rock in my belly. When I press on the area above my belly button, it hurts as well.

Initially I thought it might just be Constipation, but I feel like that pain shouldn't be lasting this long. I will be visiting my doctor tomorrow but I just wanted to know if there's anyone else here who had the same experiences. Thank you :)

Constipation can be so bad it sends people to the ER. If you had a BM Monday and Tuesday it was from your previous food intake. I’m betting it’s constipation from the sudden change unless it’s a crazy coincidence that it’s your gallbladder or something.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
