strangecar 19 Posted April 2, 2019 I got the sleeve 2 weeks ago and feel like I may have just experienced my first dumping syndrome. I thought this was only possible with bypass, anyone know? 1 DanaC84 reacted to this
elcee 3,342 Posted April 2, 2019 I have heard lots of sleevers say that they get dumping
GreenTealael 25,446 Posted April 2, 2019 Very possible. I dump also.
DanaC84 1,116 Posted April 2, 2019 I don’t know where this myth ever started about no dumping with the sleeve 🤷🏼♀️. Yes, I dump as well. The first time it happened I couldn’t figure out why. All I had eaten was chicken. Turned out there was high fructose corn Syrup in the marinade . And you have my sympathy! It’s no fun 1 PrettyMess13 reacted to this
GradyCat 3,696 Posted April 2, 2019 I think it's more likely to get dumping syndrome with the bypass, but you can certainly get it with the sleeve too. Did you have something with sugar in it? Hope it doesn't happen again.
it'sonlythefirststep 141 Posted April 2, 2019 We can have it too! That’s when you are thankful you are near a restroom
KCgirl061 1,533 Posted April 2, 2019 My surgeon warned me it was a possibility. I don't dump, neither does a friend of mine who had RNY - there is no guarentee either way.

I thought this was only possible with bypass, anyone know? Some of us experience dumping, and some don’t. Odds are less with the sleeve because our intestines are not altered. It’s good and bad that I can tolerate sugar without dumping. I'm a type one diabetic. I have times I need sugar to raise my blood sugars. The bad part is it’s easier to add sugar back into my diet. 1 sillykitty reacted to this
ms.sss 15,733 Posted April 2, 2019 I'm a sleever. I *think* I had dumping once (and once only!) after drinking some lemon soju back over Christmas. It came about 5-10 minutes after drinking it (wave of nausea, need to barf, then was in the washroom number-two-ing for about 30 minutes). Yuck. Didn't do that again. PrettyMess13 3 Posted April 3, 2019 I'm so glad (not in a bad way) to see that other VSG patients have had dumping. I had it after eating scrambled eggs about 2 weeks after surgery or when I have too much sugar. I have a coworker who had bypass and we got into an argument because she believes VSG patients do not experience dumping...according to her research! 1 DanaC84 reacted to this

Sheribear68 3,201 Posted April 3, 2019 I had what I now realize was dumping 17 days post sleeve. I had only been on purées for 3 days, but was out of town for a family wedding. I had had eggs 3 times so I was positive eggs would be an okay food for me to have and since the wedding/reception was going to be an all day event, I wanted to eat Breakfast that day. Hubs and I went down to the hotel restaurant to have breakfast and he ordered eggs Benedict and I ate one of the eggs. I scraped most of the hollandaise sauce off of my egg, but apparently not enough because about 20 mins after breakfast I was in agony back in the hotel room. Lasted about 90 minutes to the point where I was scared to death I was gonna miss the bus coming to pick us all up, but luckily the pain subsided and I was able to get ready. So I learned that hollandaise sauce is something I should never try to touch again and I’ve been super-cautious about any kind of sauces in foods ever since 1 PrettyMess13 reacted to this
zombieskayer 84 Posted April 5, 2019 From what I've heard it's pretty common. I've only had it once and that was actually yesterday. I had a "taco bowl" and had them put low fat sour cream in it but they messed up my order and did some kind of spicy thing on top but I had it delivered so I couldn't get it fixed so I ate it anyways and the spicy stuff gave it to me bad even though I tried to just take out the pieces that had touched the sauce.
