Your restriction is going to be tight first out from surgery. Drink slowly. Your body will give you signals when to stop. Your food will progress from liquids, puree, soft then real food. It will give you time to feel your new sensation of full.

Full is not painfull for me. I also get the hiccups and know it’s time to stop.

For me 3 weeks plus post up, I get prompted, I feel as if the puree is in my throat even after 3 bites then i allow that settle before trying again, by the 8th teaspoon am full usually.

Your body doesn't fail in prompting you especially as your stomach is now so narrow. I guess those 6 months and over should tell us how they all feel.

At first, my stomach would almost growl when I was full. It was weird, and it took some getting used to. Now that I'm a year out, I just feel the restriction. Your body will let you know when you're full though.

It’s a hard sensation to explain. Until I went on regular food I was still “hungry” but just knew I shouldn’t eat any more. I felt kinda full but not completely satisfied. I was worried my restriction wasn’t enough. But once I started on real food I felt it right away. I usually burp during a meal and shortly thereafter I know I have to stop eating. I’ve never got sick and I don’t want to so I err on the side of under-eating instead of over-eating.

For me it’s a feeling like a tightness in my chest just under my bra strap crossed with that feeling when you have a burp trapped. That burp feeling tips over into thinking I might follow with up by being sick if I don’t stop.

Eating really slowly helps. Taking a pause to survey how you feel.

Alternatively, when you are just getting liquids, then soft food and then similar stuff stuff later (sliders) instead of drier more solid food you maybe won’t feel as much restriction because it passes through and compacts more gently.

Hope that helps!

I'm only a week post-op and I learned on day 2 what it felt like for me. It was similar to the others here where I felt a pressure in the middle of my chest. One more bite after I got that and it turned into pain. It's such a weird feeling because I'm not satisfied when I'm full like my brain and stomach had formerly correlated, now my brain needs to turn this new feeling into satisfied somehow, I hope.

I know this sounds strange, but I also know others on this site get the same reaction. When I'm starting to get full, my nose runs.

It's not painful, just a feeling in my upper stomach like I'm full and know that I shouldn't eat any more. It's a comfortable feeling telling me when to stop.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
