Hi everyone. My name is Michelle and I'm scheduled for the DS on April 5th. I am 5 foot tall and weigh 192. I have high blood pressure and I'm on 3 different types of medication and my BP is still not controlled. Its the bottom number they cant control. I also have sleep apnea, borderline diabetic and border line high cholesterol. My cardiologist says even an extra 30 lbs on a person my height is alot of pressure on my heart. I'm doing the 1 week pre diet right now and will lose weight this week before surgery. There are so many people who dont agree with me and feel I dont need to be doing this. I try and explain its for medical reasons. I recently turned 50 and I have a family history of early deaths. My mom and sister both died at 57. I may not need to lose a lot but I do need to lose and keep it off. I'm really scared because I dont want to be super skinny I just want to be healthy. Is there anyone else out there in the same boat as me?

I’m 60, with high bp, sleep apnea and diabetes. I am also about the same weight as you are.I’m waiting for insurance approval.

Your right, you are doing this for your health. If others disagree with you having this surgery, it probably won’t be the first time you’ve disagreed with them over something.

they haven’t educated themselves, nor studied this, the way you have, or went on the web sights you have. But most of all...they don’t know what it feels like to be your age, and to be in your body. You have a lot of years to look forward to. You want to live it in health.

I wish I would of not put this off, and had done weight loss surgery at 50.

i find myself not telling a lot of people, because I don’t want their apinion.Once , I’ve lost 50 to 100 pounds, then they can give me their opinion. Right?

I am 5'2", starting weight was 213 at my first doctor appointment. I have lost 20 lbs waiting for insurance approval & with their good graces I will have my surgery May 16th. I am doing the gastric sleeve. I have sleep apnea, & borderline HBP. I just want to feel better, to be able to get up off the floor or to cross my legs. Its not about being skinny, its about being healthy.

I'm hoping your surgery went well today. I'm going for the same one, but it won't be until August or September. I'm a little taller and a little heavier, turning 50 next month, with HBP, diabetes and sleep apnea. I also have those who don't agree with my decision. My mom died at 61, mainly due to health issues caused by her weight. You're doing the right thing for YOU, no matter what they think. Best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
