Briswife15 890 Posted March 29, 2019 Had my bypass on Wednesday and just came home this afternoon. I knew it might happen, but I stepped on the scale and gained almost 10 pounds!! How long before I get back to normal? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 DanaC84 reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted March 29, 2019 My prediction is 10 days, but I hope my guess is off and you're able to do it sooner, you're just a little water- logged at the moment! Wal walk walk sip sip sip smile smile smile because surgery is behind instead of something to be dreaded. Your future Briswife is now kicking into gear, and oh the places you'll go, the thongs you'll see along the way to goal. But it is Good, and your surgical tool will help in your success. Forward, you're heading forward, leave the past behind! 2 iliana00000 and DanaC84 reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,436 Posted March 29, 2019 IV fluids, Inflammation, etc will make you appear to weight more but unless you ate a surplus 3500 × 10 cals during surgery don't sweat it... It's not sticking around 💜 Congrats on surgery, stay away from the scale (it's a liar) 💜 1 DanaC84 reacted to this
Pug-Mom-Patti 58 Posted March 29, 2019 Same thing happened to me. My surgeon said it would be gone around the second week, and he was right! Hope all is well! 1 DanaC84 reacted to this
DanaC84 1,116 Posted March 29, 2019 Frustrating and totally normal. Mine was 12 lbs and took between 10 days to 2 weeks to see it start moving. What @GreenTealael said, stay off the scale 👍🏻
SilviaCC 2 Posted March 30, 2019 I'm 10 years post-op. It's totally normal to gain weight after this kind of surgery. About 2 weeks or so and you'll start to see a difference. Good luck!
iliana00000 16 Posted March 30, 2019 Also because they don't take out the organ.
Briswife15 890 Posted March 30, 2019 Thanks, all! I will stay off the scale until my 2 week follow up appointment on April 10th. The Water weight should be gone by then!!Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 DanaC84 reacted to this
TTAshton 7 Posted April 10, 2019 I was looking for advice on this. When discharged from the hospital, I was told to weigh daily but it was depressing to see a 20 lb gain. I was pumped with fluids at the hospital for days after surgery also. I will look forward to this going away.
